WOODBRIDGE -- The Woodbridge Democratic Organization endorsed Mayor John E. McCormac and At-Large Council Members Brenda Yori-Velasco, James Carroll, Patricia Osborne and Gregg Ficarra for re-election at Monday’s committee meeting.Â
Â
John McCormac, who is seeking a full four-year term after winning a special election to fill the one year remaining on Mayor Pelzman’s term after his unexpected passing said, “We are proud to be running on our record. This Democratic ticket has continually worked to improve the quality of life for each resident of Woodbridge.
Â
McCormac went on to say that this Democratic team has lived up to the promises they made when he ran in the special-election for Mayor last November. “We promised to address several issues around town such as illegal housing and improvements to our school’s facilities among many others. He added, “Thanks to a strong partnership with the Woodbridge Township Council, we are close to having fulfilled each of these promises in just a short period of time.
Â
Councilman Gregg Ficarra is looking forward to his first election since being appointed to the council in January following Councilwoman Carol Ehrlich’s resignation. Ficarra, a Supervisor of Physical Education and Athletics at Perth Amboy School District and President of the State Athletic Directors’ Association said, “I’m excited because there are so many positive things happening in town that will affect the quality of all our lives. Being a part of that process is invigorating.
Â
Council President Brenda Yori-Velasco, a former educator and an active community member, is proud of her involvement in programs such as Christmas in April, the Jack Fay Civic Award and the Youth in Government Day Program. “My career in education, commitment to our community and eleven years as a Woodbridge Councilwoman enables me to better serve the families of Woodbridge, said Yori-Velasco.
Â
Councilman James Carroll, seeking his fourth-term as Councilman said, “This Democratic Council and newly-elected Mayor McCormac have made great strides in making Woodbridge an even better place to live in just a short period of time.â€? He went on to say, “With your support we can continue to serve the needs of the Woodbridge community.â€?Â
Â
Councilwoman Patricia Osborne, a long time teacher in the Woodbridge School District, who briefly served as interim-Mayor after the passing of Mayor Pelzman, is also seeking her fourth-term as Councilwoman. Osborne recently took a leading role in the Iselin Visioning Meetings that helped create a master plan to address the traffic, parking and congestion issues of the Iselin Business District.
Â
Osborne said, “My record over the last 11 years as your at-large council representative clearly demonstrates that I can shoulder the responsibilities of serving the Woodbridge residents.
Â
The election for Woodbridge Mayor and four at-large council seats is November 6th.
