ASSEMBLYMAN WISNIEWSKI WANTS LAUTENBERG TO MOVE ON DEBATES
Transportation Chairman Calls on Senator to Yield Debate Time
to Opponents and Voters
SAYREVILLE -- On behalf of the voters in the 19th district, State Assemblyman John Wisniewski (D-Middlesex) asks that Frank Lautenberg agree to debate his primary opponent U.S. Representative Rob Andrews.
“Frank Lautenberg should debate his opponent, open up the process and allow the voters to hear his position on issues such as Transportation” Wisniewski said. Assemblyman Wisniewski added that he has the utmost respect for Senator Lautenberg and his long service to New Jersey as Senator but added, “I’m disheartened by the Senator’s refusal to allow the public an opportunity to compare both candidates and make a decision on who they believe best represents the interests of New Jersey.”
Assemblyman Wisniewski, currently the chair of the Transportation, Public Works and Independent Authorities Committee, refers to the fact that a deteriorating highway infrastructure is an issue that needs to be addressed on a national level. “Here in New Jersey we have a growing problem in finding adequate funding for our transportation system. As a member of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee I would expect Senator Lautenberg to take a more public stance in providing solutions for our State. We need strong leadership in Washington and a public debate would allow the voters to compare how Congressman Andrews and Senator Lautenberg would address such important issues.”
While Congressman Andrews has accepted 11 invitations to debate across the state, Frank Lautenberg has decided not to accept any.
“The Senator needs to break out of this shell and present himself to the voters of this State. New Jersey’s problems are the problems of the nation and we need to hear his plan for the next six years.”
