ATLANTIC-CAPE MAY CENTRAL LABOR COUNCIL ENDORSES
ANDREWS FOR SENATE
Key Labor Groups Call Andrews Champion of Workers' Rights
Momentum Toward Nomination Grows
EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP -- In a further sign of his strong support among working families in New Jersey, Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Rob Andrews has been endorsed by the Atlantic-Cape May Central Labor Council. The endorsement by one of the major labor organizations in the state continues Andrews' surge toward his party's Senate nomination, which will be decided in the June 3 primary.
The Atlantic-Cape May Central Labor Council praised Andrews as the kind of determined, effective leader who can best represent average Americans in today's declining economy.
"Rob Andrews is the clear choice to represent New Jersey in the U.S. Senate," said Roy Foster, president of the Central Labor Council, which represents several thousand workers, including casino employees, in southeastern New Jersey. "He not only talks about the hardships faced by working people who are struggling to make ends meet, he actually does something about them. He has been a true champion for workers' rights."
Foster cited Andrews' record of accomplishment in Congress on issues having a direct impact on his members and other average Americans. He said Andrews has led efforts to create new jobs and economic development; increase the minimum wage and other employee benefits; and ensure the rights of workers to organize and bargain for fair contracts. He said Andrews has been steadfast in his opposition to free-trade agreements that send jobs overseas at the expense of our workers here at home.
"In all those and other issues, Rob Andrews has been there for us," Foster said. "He listens to our concerns and then takes our fight to Washington. We could not ask for more. He clearly is the superior choice to represent the Democratic Party and the state of New Jersey in the United States Senate for the next six years. We need a senator who is tenacious, experienced and committed to the needs of hard-working people being squeezed by our harsh economy."
Andrews said he was gratified by the council's support and pledged to continue fighting for the interests of its members and other working Americans after his election to the Senate. "No American should have to decide between filling their car's gas tank or buying groceries; yet that is precisely what many people face in today's economy," Andrews said. "I will carry their fight to the U.S. Senate over the next six years to make sure Washington takes the steps necessary to protect their economic interests."
