Today's Washington Post references a 2006 $2 million federal earmark U.S. Senator Barack Obama helped secure for the University of Chicago, where his wife, Michelle Obama, worked as the vice president for community and external affairs. Former State Sen. Joseph Coniglio was indicted yesteday for helping secure a state Christmas tree grant for Hackensack University Medical Center that employed him as a plumbing consultant.

If you lie down with dogs
For someone whom critics contend has way too little experience to be president, Obama certainly appears to be a rather quick learner of Washington's insider ways. Hope, Change,Reform, Indeed! Criticizing your opponent for action in which you engage as well (which you wrap up in the blanket of children and veterans)? Mr. Pot, please say hello to Mrs. Kettle. Oh and there is Ron Paul, another fine piece of cookware.

HA!! What do you expect? He's a Cook County politician. The only county in the entire country that's more corrupt than Hudson.:-D That's why I laugh whenever I see him portraying himself as some sort of "beacon of light" for change from "business as usual."
He IS business as usual. Plain and simple.

No
I don't think Senator Coniglio wants to compare himself to Michelle Obama. I think it might be a stretch to suggest that the Princeton and Harvard Law edcucated Michelle Obama was on "the payroll" to secure federal cash. Can't imagine that Michelle would ever have a problem finding gainful employment.
There is a difference
Not to defend anyones actions here, however there is a distinct difference in Wally Edge's comparison, being one individual gained personally then engaged in a cover up by lying about what the contract was for - influence peddling.
Neither quite passes the smell test.
The bottom line...
Our taxpayer dollars SHOULD NOT go to the University of Chicago. That's a Illinois decision, not a federal decision.
Taxpayer Money Used Through Pork-Barrel Spending Earmarks:
Hillary Clinton - $340 Million
Barack Obama - $91 Million
John McCain - $0
Look at Cheney and Haliburton
Maybe he should investigate the fact that when Cheney left Haliburton he got a $436 million dollar pay out. Then when he became VP he steered billions in contracts to them. The stuff that goes on in NJ is small potatoes to what these guys in the Bush administration do. They legalize corruption.
Haliburton was an energy services corporation. Why did they recieve every contract coming out of Iraq. they did everything there. Very little of it had to do with energy services.
Ashcroft
Let's see if former AG, Ashcroft, shows up at the congressional hearing after getting a subpoena. It would be interesting to ask Christy, Ashcroft, and Gonzo some questions, with their hands on the bible.
So if you're an Ivy Leaguer, you can't be wrong.
I suppose that also explains why it was ok for the Obamas to allow their now-indicted political godfather buy the spare lot next door to their dream home.
