Slate Vows to Bring Passion Back to Trenton and Deliver the Resources Constituents NeedÂ
Hackensack –Yesterday Mayor Michael Wildes (D-Englewood), Charles “Ken Zisa (D-Hackensack) and Cid Wilson (D-Leonia) formally kicked off their campaigns for Senate and Assembly surrounded by supporters at a rally in Hackensack.
Â
“Its time for a change in the 37th, Wildes said to cheers from supporters. “With your help, Ke/n, Cid and myself will take the fight to Trenton and make sure that the working families of this district start getting their fair share.
Â
The candidates and more than 150 of their supporters gathered Sunday evening at the Logan Family Life Center in Hackensack to select the official recipients of the Party’s support for the upcoming primary election in June.
Â
“This district deserves more than just a legislator, it deserves an advocate, said Zisa, Chief of the Hackensack Police Department. “While we go without, districts around the state are cashing in. It is high time that we had a voice in Trenton that makes the people their number one priority.
Â
In 2005, District 37 ranked dead last in municipal aid and near the bottom in almost every aid category among Bergen County’s legislative Districts. While District 39 ranked 1st with $2,482,000, District 37 only received $980,000. District 37 ranked near the bottom when it came to getting Extraordinary Aid too, receiving just $635,000, 75% less than the $2.5 million received in total by the municipalities of District 36. Even when it comes to Homeland Security funds the communities of the 37th, which sit just a few miles from New York City, came in almost dead last. Even with the cost of government soaring, the amount of money from Trenton keeps sinking.
Â
“The crushing debt of property taxes and the skyrocketing cost of educating our children is a one two punch that’s driving our residents right out of their homes, Wilson. “People from across the district have told me they’re not getting the help they need and it’s time for a legislative team that’s not going to tolerate Trenton’s status quo.
Â
The slate brings together almost 65 years of government and financial experience on one ticket. Wildes, currently serving his second term as the Mayor of Englewood, served on the City Council for 5 years and spent nearly 4 years with the United States Attorney’s Office. Zisa has spent 30 years in law enforcement and served the residents of the 37th District for 8 years as their Assemblyman. Wilson has spent almost 15 years working in the financial sector, starting in the mailroom and working his way up to become Director of Equity Research with Kevin Dann & Partners LLC.
