DAY 86: GOVERNOR CORZINE, SENATOR WEINBERG, ASSEMBLY MEMBERS JOHNSON AND HUTTLE SUPPORT TOLL HIKES ON NEW JERSEY DRIVERS.

WHERE IS GOVERNOR CORZINE, SENATOR WEINBERG, DISTRICT 37 ASSEMBLY MEMBERS JOHNSON AND HUTTLE ON MTA (TUNNEL AND BRIDGE) INCREASES?

No action – Toll Hikes took effect on July 12. When we first called the Governor’s office, he was unaware of this issue!

When we confronted Assemblyman Johnson he wore a sympathetic expression on his face for a few minutes but did not say he would help.

Assemblywomen Huttle and Senator Weinberg are nowhere to be found and silent on the matter!

Starting July 12, the MTA increased tolls on its Bridge & Tunnel crossings, the E-ZPass discount traditionally set aside for ALL E-ZPass users, will only apply to drivers who enrolled in the program through the E-ZPass NY Service Center. Those not enrolled through NY will be charged the same price as drivers who pay cash to use the seven bridges and two tunnels.

Here are two examples of the discrimination to NJ residents - E-ZPass cars were being charged $4.15 on major crossings like the Throgs Neck Bridge or Robert F. Kennedy Bridge. Drivers using cash were charged $5.00. As of the 12th, cars registered through the NY Service Center will pay $4.57, while cars that have E-ZPass through another agency, such as NJ E-Zpass or the NJ Turnpike Authority, will pay $5.50 - the same price that will be charged to those using cash.

Note: E-ZPass rates apply to New York E-ZPass Customer Service Center customers only. Non-NYCSC customers will pay the cash rates. (For more information, visit the MTA)

We are demanding action from Governor Corzine, Senator Weinberg, Assembly members Johnson and Huttle to help protect the residents of District 37 and all of New Jersey.

It came to our attention that drivers who use E-ZPass through the Port Authority and the New Jersey Turnpike Authority are charged a $1 monthly fee while account-holders of the New York Bridge and Tunnel Authority are not charged.

I am proposing to the NJ State Legislature that they offer a discount to NJ E-ZPass subscribers while making non-NJ subscribers pay a higher, cash price on The Turnpike, Garden State Parkway and other crossings into New Jersey.

This increase for non NJ E-ZPass subscribers would be in effect until New York MTA revokes its discriminatory charges against New Jersey drivers.
