Taxpayer Advocate Wojciech Siemaszkiewicz enthusiastically signed on to the New Jersey State Republican Assembly Plan to reduce government waste. The innovative plan will call for a constitutional amendment that will establish the Office of the Auditor General, an elected position having prosecutorial authority and the ability to recoup misappropriated taxpayer dollars. Siemaszkiewicz noted, "During these times of the widespread culture of corruption that has permeated every level of government in New Jersey during the past eight years of Democratic rule, this is precisely what New Jersey needs to clean up government and get our fiscal house in order. The largess of the way that the Democrats treated themselves to luxurious items such as football tickets, concerts, catering services, parties, and even peppermint and cinnamon mints is shocking and insulting given that New Jersey workers and families are struggling to meet ends meet during this recession and doing without such luxuries."
Sadly, Gov. Corzine, who campaigned in 2005 by touting his financial experience, has done very little in combating government fraud, waste and abuse or doing anything to make New Jersey State Government more accountable or efficient. Under his mismanagement, government fraud, waste and abuse has exploded and the state budget has doubled. Gov. Corzine was presented a number of budget saving items in 2006 which would have saved taxpayers over $400 Million and dealt with a lot of these government waste issues, but he vetoed the legislation, because he claimed that it would be better if he had the individual power to negotiate state contracts. He then proceeded to negotiate a series of contracts which punished New Jersey Taxpayers severely and were prohibitively expensive.
Gov. Corzine has repeatedly missed opportunities to combat Medicaid fraud, at a time when Democrats want to impose government controlled health care, known as the Public Option, on the American people. The Office of the Auditor General would have the power to investigate Medicaid Fraud.
A great deal of the mismanagement and waste occurred in the office of the New Jersey Redevelopment Authority. A look at the list of municipalities that received the lion's share of the funding from this Authority shows that none of them were in District 37. District 37 taxpayers are therefore paying for a wasteful and shockingly unaccountable agency, from which they are deriving little benefit.
As a Taxpayer Advocate, I will fight for the Taxpayers of District 37 and I will do everything in my power to fight government waste, fraud and abuse. Accordingly, I fully support creating the Office of the Auditor General.
