The Republican campaign for State Assembly in 2009 is in a full swing already in April. As we reviewed our issues from the Republican campaign for State Assembly in 2007, we realized that despite our defeat at the polls, we have won the war of ideas.
In 2007, we proposed the following:
Capping annual property tax increases to an acceptable level.
Adopting a circuit breaker on how much New Jersey can raise your taxes during a revaluation so that your property taxes do not increase too much in one year.
Banning ALL wheeling, no-bid contracts, double-pensions and pay-to-play situations.
Banning ALL Dual Office Holding, including current incumbents.
Stopping Eminent Domain abuses.
Allowing the public to vote on ALL new state debt.
Reforming the Abbott School District Formula so we can get more school funding.
Solving traffic, road and flooding zone problems.
Stopping excessive and wasteful spending, fraud and abuse by the state.
Our incumbent Democrat opponents have criticized and ridiculed our campaign program in their campaign and debates with us. Surprisingly, Governor Corzine did not. He actually has tried to implement some of our campaign points in his own flimsy way:
Capping annual property tax increases to an acceptable level – Governor has implemented a cap on annual increase in municipal spending, Governor has implemented a cap on annual increase in school budgets. Governor did not reform property taxes, Governor did not lower property taxes, but merely slowed down excessive growth of property taxes that is already the highest in the USA
Adopting a circuit breaker on how much New Jersey can raise your taxes during a revaluation so that your property taxes do not increase too much in one year – Governor did not reform the revaluation process
Banning ALL wheeling, no-bid contracts, double-pensions and pay-to-play situations – Governor did not reform these critical issues for our state finances areas. Abuse of double-pensions and plum appointments going to political contributors and career politicians in New Jersey is rampant!
Banning ALL Dual Office Holding, including current incumbents – Governor did not enhance this ban to all elected offices in New Jersey. Governor did not ban dual office holding by current incumbents including assemblyman from District 37 Gordon Johnson
Stopping Eminent Domain abuses – Governor did not touch this issue at all
Allowing the public to vote on ALL new state debt - Governor did not touch this issue at all
Reforming the Abbott School District Formula so we can get more school funding – Governor has implemented the new school funding formula in 2008. This formula did not dissolve the Abbott Districts. To the contrary, the Abbott Districts continue to receive millions of dollars in state funds without any tangible educational results and without elimination of waste and fraud in those districts. Disturbingly, it was discovered recently that Governor’s formula prohibited local school boards from lowering property taxes designated to school funding after they were able to implement cost saving measures. Incredibly, under Democrats, it is considered to be a gross violation of taxpayers’ rights to have their property taxes lowered.
Solving traffic, road and flooding zone problems – Governor did not implement any initiatives to that effect in District 37. We fear that even Federal Stimulus funds will not be used in District 37 to resolve these problems. Governor Corzine has failed our district miserably.
Stopping excessive and wasteful spending, fraud and abuse by the state - Governor Corzine has failed our State miserably! The State debt has reached $36 billion, this year’s budget deficit has reached $7 billion. Governor Corzine has failed our State miserably!
Our incumbent Democrat assembly members Huttle and Johnson HAVE FAILED TO REPRESENT DISTRICT 37 in a beneficial way to its voters and have voted in lockstep with Governor Corzine.
I WILL RESTORE RESPONSIBLE GOVERNMENT IN TRENTON.
IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE IN NEW JERSEY POLITICS
