As one of the Republican Assembly Candidates in District 37, I am outraged by the euphemistically-called “Freedom of Choice Act”, which is really the “Freedom of Abortion Act, without any restrictions, paid for by the Taxpayer, Act”. This terrible piece of legislation will override any legislative limitation on Abortions and prevent any state legislature to pass any future limitations on Abortions.
The bill which is so unfair, will prevent any restrictions on Third-Trimester abortions, any restrictions on Partial-Birth abortions, any restrictions on Parental Notification, and any restrictions on Waiting Periods, The bill will silence any type of Pro-Life guidance to expecting mothers who are thinking of having abortions. In poll after poll, a majority of Americans have shown that they support these limitations on abortions. In addition, this bill provides billions of dollars in new Abortion funding, despite the fact that a significant percentage of taxpayers are opposed to Abortion.
One of the most pernicious parts of the bill is the elimination of the Conscience Clause. Under this bill, medical providers and hospitals will be forced to perform Abortions, even if this procedure conflicts with their moral and religious viewpoints. If they do not provide abortions, they are at risk of losing their federal funding.
This issue directly affects New Jersey’s District 37 in a negative way. Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck is in danger of closing because of the elimination of the Conscience Clause. As a Catholic hospital, it is forbidden to perform Abortions. Since all New Jersey Hospitals are dependent on Federal Funding and since New Jersey Hospitals are already struggling with State Budget Cuts and the Recession, it is feared that the elimination of the Federal Funding could eliminate more hospitals in New Jersey. Certainly, it will be the final blow to cause Holy Name Hospital to close.
As an Assembly Candidate, I voice my objection to the so-called “Freedom of Choice Act” and if elected to the Assembly, I would sponsor a bill to exempt New Jersey from it. I favor continuing the Conscience Clause and allowing Catholic and other Pro-Life Hospitals and Medical Providers not to be forced to provide Abortions or else lose their federal funding. I would also sponsor a bill to allow common-sense limitations on Abortions that a majority of Americans support, i.e. allowing Waiting Periods, limitations on Abortions in the Third-Trimester and Partial-Birth Abortions and allowing Pro-Life guidance to mothers to be presented to expectant Mothers to provide some balance to the Pro-Abortion literature given to them by Planned Parenthood.
I am urging incumbent Democrat legislators in District 37 to help save New Jersey hospitals in general, and the Holy Name Hospital in particular.
IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE IN NEW JERSEY POLITICS
