DEMOCRAT LEADERSHIP ATTACKS CULTURE IN NEW JERSEY

Desperately seeking Gov. Corzine has declared war on funding culture in New Jersey.

Apparently, there is a hotel-motel tax established in 2003, which was meant to guarantee that a portion of the tax revenue would help fund the arts. The law includes a "poison pill" provision that eliminates the tax should arts funding drop below $16 million. Desperately seeking Gov. Corzine's plan calls for $14.4 million, or $1.6 million under the law's threshold.

“Funding for our State’s priorities must be bottom-up, and we must fulfill our promise to keep kids safe and healthy before we can restore arts funding,” said Sen. Vitale.  “During this global economic crisis, we have to recognize that New Jersey cannot afford to fund every worthy cause, and must prioritize its funding.” Senator Joseph F. Vitale, D-Middlesex is the Chairman of the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee, and a member of Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee.

"Statutory poison pills are unconstitutional," said Governor’s spokesperson. "Unless funding is constitutionally dedicated, it's really an end-around the constitution. The governor is not responsible for enforcing invalid laws."

Desperately seeking Gov. Corzine decided to balance the budget on the backs of starving artists by, illegally, underfunding the arts by $1.6M. As usual, when liberals don’t like a law they just ignore it.

"The governor should fund the arts at least at the statutory minimum. It was a promise made to many people across the state," said Sen. Kean Jr., adding the arts create jobs and contribute to economic growth. "I think the governor is trying to confuse process with public policy, and that's wrong."

Wojciech Siemaszkiewicz of Bergenfield as a Republican candidate for the State Assembly in November 2009 declares his support for funding culture in Legislative District 37 and across New Jersey. I urge incumbent Democrat legislators in District 37 to publicly oppose their leadership arrogant attempt to deprive our local culture of necessary funds to operate in the most beneficial way to our communities.

It is time for a change in New Jersey politics
