That says it all
A guy no one heard of this morning takes 51% in this unscientific poll. The rank and file GOP want a legitimate, not the two fringe candidates we now have.
After the publication of the manifesto Jersey Joke should worry about saving his state senate seat. I hear rumblings that the voters have second thoughts about how they cast their votes last year.
Unanue's Resume is Impressive
Running a multinational corporation like Goya instantly separates him from a career academic and a nationalist dentist in terms of real world experience. Add to this that he holds an MBA in global business from a top graduate school and you begin to paint a picture of someone who can speak with both firsthand knowledge and authority on the economic issues inherent in a global economy.
It will be interesting to see where he comes down on the issues. It also bears noting that Lautenberg himself initially ran as a political outsider who had made his bones as corporate kingpin. Could Unanue be the next incarnation of this persona to succeed the Garden State's most powerful octagenarian? Just some food for thought ... Goya, oh boy-a!!!
business people in politics
I don't think people who own huge businesses are that great... I mean they know how to order people around and make a big profit for their goals... that's great for them, not a state/country. Stopping crazy spending would be good, but you need to look at their views on the issues for that.
Wait for it..
The Full Murray Army hasn't gotten to this poll yet....they will just as they did to yesterday's poll against Lautenberg. Maybe this time Murray won't send an email to supporters asking them to vote in an unscientific poll..ha.
Maybe Wally
should limit these poll to people who are in NJ.
Then again,
Murray Sabrin would probably release yet another press release claiming that there is a conspiracy against him were Wally to limit these polls to NJ residents.
@ ESedler
I never got an "email"
Stop coming up with conspiracy theories just because you aren't seeing what you want to see.

Friends,
Below is my press release announcing the start of our Legalize Freedom College Tour and my op-ed addressing the elimination of a national drinking age from 21. Our campaign to Legalize Freedom is going tremendously as my primary opponent Joe Pennacchio's campaign has been floundering since the release of his fascist manifesto earlier this week. We have received incredible support throughout New Jersey and around the country and if we receive the necessary resources we will defeat the extremely liberal Frank Lautenberg in November. For more information please visit my website www.MurraySabrin.com.
Regards,
Murray
P.S. There is an online poll at www.politickernj.com asking "Who wins a U.S. Senate race between Frank Lautenberg and Murray Sabrin?" - I encourage you to go vote (only once).
Are you denying that there
Are you denying that there is a great deal of grassroots support for Sabrin? In an election with exceptionally low turn out, this grassroot support will make a great deal of difference. May Ron Paul's support didn't translate into presidential victory, but in smaller states, with lower turnout he got over 20% of the vote. Plus, this isn't even a presidential election.
For these polls to have any...
credibility, the participants should vote for who they think will actually win. This means that you shold vote for the person who will actually win, and this means that you may have to vote against the person you are supporting.
OK ESedler
OK, I never saw that, but look now: definitely no email today yet he is winning again.
@ Eric
Sure, but that never happens so you might as well vote for who you support.
Well then these polls are meaningless
I have voted against the candidate that I have supported in these "who will win" polls before. Its disengenous not to, if you think the other candidate will win.
by the way jeremy
i AM disputing that Murray has significant grass roots support. He has a small coterie of committed zealots who actively populate blogs and websites to create the illusion of widespread support. At the end of the day, it's all smoke and mirrors. Just like Ron Paul winning county straw polls and then doing about 5% in the statewide primary. Except for Gloucester, Murray's been consistently runnning 80/20 behind Pennacchio and Pennacchio ain't exactly a rock star candidate.
these polls are a lot like the old little rascals episode where alfalfa asks Mr Hood who is stronger, Tarzan or Flash Gordon. They don't mean a heck of a lot of anything. They mean even less when they are manipulated and twisted by a band of hackers. Unanue's name was in the news for a minute and a half and for the first few hours before the horde descended on the website, he had double digit leads over the presumptive front runner and the guy with all the grass roots support.
if it shows you anything, it's that people are looking for somethng better than the 2 guys already in the race.
I agree with gnlgop
I completely agree with gnlgop about how much or how little support Sabrin really has, and I seriously question Sabrin's motives for running as a Republican in the first place. I don't understand why he's still participating in Republican county conventions after he came out and said he plans to run on a different ballot line anyway.
I'm definitely one of those people looking for something better than any of the three guys in this race.

:)
Wow a Youtube video
Murray Sabrin sure has a lot of supprt. Not. You may remember that he lost the Bergen GOP convention.
One thing's for certain...
....Sabrin supporters vote on PolitickerNJ.com polls.
Whether they vote at the actual polls--remains to be seen.
Martin Two
To say that Unanue ran a multinational corporation is a bit of a stretch. As I understand it, he was installed into an executive position by his father, which was followed by BOTH he and his father being fired by the family board of directors. I believe the rest of the family/shareholders felt that the father was making unwise business decisions, one of which was the naming of Andrew to his position.
I'll wait to see what Unanue says about the important issues. I think that propping up a candidate, solely because he/she has substantial personal wealth, as the GOP has attempted to do with Estabrook and Unanue is a rather dubious move...
Eric..
Did a libertarian-minded youth steal your girlfriend in high school? Or do you like paying high taxes and having huge deficits? Otherwise I cant explain your irrational loathing of the very decent professor Dr. Sabrin.
Interesting conclusion
So, the guy who has no support whatsoever among GOP is leading this poll. Sen. Pennacchio is dead last, although he is the presumptive leader. And, yes, the new guy who is supported desperately by the GOP establishment is trailing Dr. Sabrin. Well, what is going on here?
rgavula
You obviously possess intimate knowledge regarding the inner workings of the Goya empire. How did you come about this initmate knowledge? Please, let us know your bona fides to make such a claim. Any one who has ever worked in a corporate setting understands that boards of directors often stage coups to remove even the most competent executives for any one of a variety of reasons. This kind of infighting is common, especially within a family setting.
Moreover, I made the point that Unanue is uniquely suited to match up with Lautenberg given that he can run on essentially the same message FL ran on when he initially won the Senate seat. You also conveniently ignore the fact that I specifically mentioned that Unanue holds an MBA in global business. I see this as an asset in a time when our economy is floundering. Are you now going to tell me that his father bought him this degree or that the professorial faculty since stripped him of this credential because they preferred Del Monte to Goya? And, for the record, where did I mention Unanue's wealth as a factor in finding his candidacy of potential interest? I didn't.
I also qualified what I said by stating, " It will be interesting to see where he (Unanue) comes down on the issues." I am obviously not blindly pushing Unanue as you imply. Rather, I am cautiously optimistic about his prospects given that the two current candidates stand little chance of beating Lautenberg, who MUST be removed from office as soon as possible.
And so it starts!
"As I understand it, he was installed into an executive position by his father, which was followed by BOTH he and his father being fired by the family board of directors."
And so, the Ron Paul "Revolution" assault begins.
Be prepared for this if you decide to enter this race, Andy. The Ron Paul people will never leave you alone and you will never be completely rid of them, even if you win the nomination.
They are the genital herpes of the Republican Party.
"Liberals are people who will believe anything...twice."- William F. Buckley
What many Ron Paul supporters don't understand,
is that Ron Paul's message while laudable in many respects does not offset the divisive tactics that Paul and his supporters use.
We need a candidate who can appeal to all of the wings of the Republican party. I don't know whether Andy Unanue is that person yet, but I do know that Murray Sabrin is not that person.
I'll say it
There is very limited grassroots support for Murray Sabrin.
Sabrin's Grassroots Support
He's kinda like that kid in high school who used to say "Sure, I gotta girlfriend. She just doesn't live around here so you don't know her." Sabrin's people want you to believe that the Sabrinistas are laying in wait all over the state...a silent majority if you will. That's a joke. Schundler had a silent majority. Sabrin has a handful of phanatics. The fact that Unanue does so well even in this jacked up insiders only poll speaks to the fact that there is ZERO interest in having either of these guys on top of the ticket. Who wants to run under a candidate who's getting his brains beaten in for advocating legalized drugs and prostitution? Probably the same party member who wants to run under a candidate who's getting his brains beaten in for advocating the end of medicare and social security. Put either Sabrin and Pennachio on top and be prepared to watch them lose 70-30 or worse.
Divisive?
I'd hardly call Ron Paul supporters the leaders of divisive tactics within the Republican party - Paul's detractors routinely attempt to marginalize him as "a kook", often citing no positions of Ron Paul himself, rather the beliefs of some of his supporters.
Personally, I am not happy with much of the established Republican party platform, and I particularly dislike their tendency to court anyone with a few bucks, over someone who might hold principles in the best intrests of the people and in line with the Constitution of our country. It's amazing to me how many politicians will scoff at the idea of following the Constitution for which they have sworn protection.
Anyway - my apologies to Martin Two, for giving the impression that my entire post was directed at you - it wasn't. I merely wanted to question the accuracy of your statement about Unanue "running a multinational corporation". There are numerous reports of the lawsuit that was filed against Goya by Andrew and his father after their firing.
I agree, this is not an uncommon happening among family-run businesses, but on the flip-side, I would also suggest that many family-run businesses install the family members into executive positions that are little more than titles, and do not necessarily infer operational expertise. I don't know whether this is the case with Goya.
I didn't mention anything about Mr. Unanue's degree(s), because I have no issue with them.
Its Jersey Joe FOLKS
He did the work and won more conventions and won the line in most counties incl Bergen. So message to Eric and the Sabrin camp, get over it. The Republican grass roots have for the most part already spoken and will never ever accept being force fed with GOYA food.
Telling the future
>This means that you shold vote for the person who will actually win
and here I am without my crystal ball.
shucks.

"Joseph Unanue will also be receiving an honorary degree. Unanue is the former president of CEO of Goya Foods, Inc., the largest Hispanic-owned food company in the country. He was president of Goya for 27 years, until he was overthrown by his two nephews, Robert I. Unanue and Francisco R. Unanue.
His nephews voted him off of the company’s three-member board, and then, acting as a two member board fired him as president and CEO, and his son, Andy Unanue, as COO of the company.
“We had been talking about transition and leadership for some time, and natural progression,” Robert Unanue said. “The company decided that it was time for that leadership to come about.”
Robert and Francisco Unanue have filed a lawsuit in Delaware to render their removal of Joseph Unanue from the board valid. They cited in the lawsuit that Joseph had “refused to comply” with the wishes of the board on certain issues.
Joseph and Andy Unanue have filed a lawsuit in New Jersey Superior Court, demanding to be either reinstated or bought-out. The issue that has divided the family so staunchly is whether to allow major retailers such as Wal-Mart to control how Goya prices, displays and distributes its products, which new CEO, Robert Unanue objects to."
Why Ron Paul is dangerous to GOP?
I do not know. I am not even Ron Paul supporter, but judging from the comments above he is the major threat to the GOP in NJ. I thought that Democrats were. Dr. Sabrin apparently does not have any support according to the comments above, but he is stil leading the poll above. How is this possible? Dr. Sabrin is also running a campaign that has the GOP establishment running for the hills (first of real estate, now of Goya beans). So why his candidacy is a fringe one? It beats me. I guess if you hate anything different you will not accept it at all.
Support
There is a difference between winning an online poll and having a broad base of support because if winning an online poll translated into actuall support, Ron Paul would be the Republican nominee right now.
dirty tricks
it is pathetic for Chairman Rob Ortiz to be pushing Unanue when Joe Pennacchio has the line in his county. He won it fair and square.
Now they want to undo the vote and put in a guy that nobody every heard of that has all kinds of ethical questions being asked - DWI's, drug dealing in his NYC nightclub, tax evasion etc.
Jersey Joe is the right choice!
We need a moderate (Pro-Choice candidate) to run for Senate
Instead of the two conservatives running currently.
I don't want Jersey Joe telling me whether I can have an abortion or not and the New Jersey Republican Party has proven it is PRO-CHOICE! I don't care about any of the other comments or allegations being made about Andy, if he is pro-choice and he has the money to run a campaign that is good enough for me.
I only wish Christie Whitman would run for Senate.
moderates are RINOs
yup, that's right gopgal, who cares if he has ethical questions being raised about drugs, prostitution, tax evasion, and illegal immigrant hiring - as long as he approves the right to abortion on demand, he should get the nomination!
RINOs make me sick. JERSEY JOE is our candidate!
Pro-choice?
I don't think you understand what the abortion debate is about. Otherwise I could tell you that you're pro-choice-of-murdering other people. If a parent doesn't want their child, they can just kill him or her off... it is their choice. See, that's what you're implying. The real abortion debate is much more complex.
Kate Whitman
Why hasn't anyone reached out to kate Whitman and told her to give up the ghost inher congressional campaign and look at this race? You need a clear contrast to Lautenberg's age and crankiness. Plus she's pro-choce. These other guys bore the pants off me frankly. I don't think Unanue will do it. He's taking too long to decide plus I hold he was pretty conservative, which may win the primary but will cost you Rr's the seat yet AGAIN in November.
I LOVE THIS
All of you conservatives are going crazy - you are going to LOSE in the primary.
We finally have a moderate Republican to run against these neantherdals who are going to meet the Ice Age by the time Andy and Rob Ortiz get done with you.
Andy can run as a pro-choice, pro-immigrant, pro-environment Republican calling for tax cuts and he WINS against Frank Lautenberg. He will be the perfect comparison to Bob Menendez.
I can't wait to see how long it takes for all the counties that got behind Jersey Joe to switch to Andy.
Na na na na, na na na na, heh heh - Good bye Jersey Joe!
pro-immigrant, pro-environment?
Andy can run as a pro-choice, pro-immigrant, pro-environment Republican? - you are either pro-immigrant or pro-environment - more people use more resources and create more pollution. And among those resources that are used is more housing. In NJ this means more Mt Laurel or 'affordable' housing going up in the suburbs.
You may be right and Mr U may become Senator U but laughing at the opposition is best done after a win and in private.
Who is Andy?
Who is that Andy?
County chairs
who want to switch from convention results may be in re-election trouble in June. Much of Joe's support came from the anti-establishment blue collar committee people - the ones of Southern and Eastern European descent.
How can anyone even seriously suggest Christie Whitman?
How can GOPgal even half-seriously suggest that it is too bad that Christie Whitman is not a candidate? She ran statewide three times and never got even 50% of the vote. As an incumbent seeking re-election in good economic times, she got a whooping 47% and only got a point more than a then-unknown Democrat. Meanwhile, on her watch, the New Jersey GOP (who had 2/3's majorities in the legislature before she took office) fell steadily toward oblivion. Christie Whitman couldn't get elected dog-catcher these days.
Folks like GOPgal can pick on pro-life candidates all they want, but the plain fact is that pro-choice Republican candidates have also taken a drubbing at the polls in New Jersey. Tom Kean Sr., running for re-election, is the only pro-choice Republican since Roe v. Wade to get a majority (50%+). Meanwhile, pro-life Ronald Reagan easily carried the state twice.
Even with the Ron Paul
Even with the Ron Paul crazies, Unaune wins. Amazing.
Why not extended until June?
Maybe then Jersey Joe will move ahead. Obviously, Wally Edge is holding it off until Andy overtakes Murray in order to annouce his victory. That was hard to figure out. That's why I sought the expertise of Estabrook's (sorry Unanue's) campaign staff.
Reagan carried the state because he was Reagan
Since then, look at the success of Pro-Life candidates in NJ on a statewide basis.
People with Pro-life on their sleeve have a different attitude when an "inconvenient" pregnancy is in their own family. All politics are "local".
Wally
I think that you can extend the poll for as long as you want but Hi Ho Joe's stock will never recover the Manifesto he penned for The People's Republic of New Jersey. He even scares Democrats.

Because some a-wipe with a computer wrote an ANONYMOUS email throwing a bunch of baseless questions out about Unanue that equals "questions being raised about his past?" So if I send out an anonymous email saying that someone should ask Sabrin if he's ever been charged with domestic violence that's tantamount to "questions being raised about Sabrin?" Please. For those of you who want to know something about the Goya issue, see yesterday's USA Today story profiling Goya CEO Bob Unanue (Andrew's cousin):

Here's the significant part from a cousin, Bob Unanue, who now runs the company:
"Unanue faced family conflict head-on about five years ago when relations grew strained among board members. An uncle died, and Unanue and his cousin Francisco disagreed with Joseph — Prudencio's last surviving son who'd been running the company since 1974 — about leadership because they said Joseph had been making decisions without their input. The result drove Bob and Francisco, with the blessing of family shareholders, to oust Joseph and his son Andy from the company.
That rift has been healed, Unanue says, as family members have settled business matters and reconciled. Joseph will soon return to the Goya board, where he will join Bob and Francisco.
"There were differences of opinion as to the direction of the company," he says. "Now, we're all on the same page."

Hey, let's give the Constitution a try!
Fellow Citizens,
I don't like this type of "Who's going to win" polls because they're just indicative of whether or not the media has successfully implanted their picks in your head yet. Vote for who you feel we need, in the polls and certainly in the voting booth. DON'T EVER LET ANYONE, ESPECIALLY THE MEDIA TELL YOU "THEY CAN'T WIN", another good one "Don't waste your vote". That's one of the methods of manipulation. They're banking on you being a mindless drone, and following them wherever they lead you.
We need all the people we can get, in all political offices, local, state and Federal that are that are determined to stop the madness in the Federal government. And the ONLY way to do that is to follow the Constitution. You do realize it's in serious danger don't you?? If you don't, you're not paying attention! If our Constitution had been followed as law, (which it is), our Country would not be in such a dire state of affairs, in every way, right now. We need to slam on the brakes, regroup and change direction, before it's too late.
Our government has ignored the safeguards of the highest law of the land. We need people who understand this, are outraged by this, and are determined to restore the government back to the noble and immeasurably wise intention of our forefathers. Yes, I hate to tell you that you will have to take responsibility for your lives, but I think you can do it.
Business as usual won't cut it anymore. Let's stop the National hemorraging. We must demand that our representatives defend and adhere to the Constitution. If they don't...we need to fire them!
Murray Sabrin is the only one who has demonstrated an awareness of the dangerous path we are on as a nation, and a willingness and desire to help us. Wake up and smell the losses of your rights and Liberty. We're in this together. Don't be afraid to "Legalize Freedom".
re: Legalizer
YEAH! Let's legalize crack, pot, illegal drugs, prostitution....AWESOME campaign tag, really gonna beat Frank with that one.
