WHELAN, WILKINS & SPELLMAN LAUNCH 'LEAVE NO VOTER BEHIND' TOUR Final Campaign Blitz reminiscent of 1992 Clinton-Gore Bus Tour
(EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, NJ) – Democratic Assemblyman Jim Whelan, the Second District state Senate candidate, and his Assembly running mates Joe Wilkins and Blondell Spellman kicked off a district wide, 'Leave No Voter Behind' campaign tour at dawn today to talk to thousands of voters about their message for change. The final campaign blitz is reminiscent of the '92 Clinton-Gore bus tour that propelled them to the White House.
Whelan, Wilkins, and Spellman began the tour at 5:30 AM at a Wawa at the Airport Circle and will make more than 50 stops through Election Day. They will meet with voters across the district, including stops at various neighborhoods, diners, senior centers, and shopping malls. The candidates expressed a great deal of confidence about the momentum that has been generated in the final weeks of their campaign, citing countless endorsements, grassroots support, and enthusiasm from voters throughout the district.
"We will meet and greet thousands of voters during our 'Leave No Voter Behind' tour to communicate our message for change, answer questions, and listen to the concerns of local residents," said Whelan. "We will fight to make sure that voters who share our agenda for change, from ethics reform to property tax relief have a voice at the polls on Election Day and beyond."
"George W. Bush and his party are experts at leaving ordinary people behind. They have slashed health care coverage, underfunded education, mismanaged the war in Iraq, and created outlandish budget deficits, all while handing out billions of dollars in special-interest government contracts to their political cronies," said Wilkins. "Our party will change the focus to make sure that the needs of the hard working men and women of this district and this state come first. Under our watch, they will no longer be left behind."
"The energy has been unbelievable," said Spellman. "We have met thousands of people during the campaign, but going on the road will allow us to touch them one last time before they head to the polls. There are many critical things that need to be done in Trenton - from cutting wasteful spending, strengthening ethics standards, to lowering property taxes. We are eager to tackle these challenges."
The campaign will share videos from various stops of the 'Leave No Voter Behind' tour on the campaign website, www.District2Dems.com. The updates will be made throughout the day to give voters an inside view of the tour, interviews with candidates, and interaction between the candidates and local residents.
