“We'd be Crazy” ... To Tell the People the Truth!
Apparently We Can't Handle the Truth!
Senate Minority Whip Thomas H. Kean (R-Essex/Morris/Union/Somerset) applauded efforts by legislators to obtain documents on the proposed sale of New Jersey toll roads and called upon the Corzine Administration not to waste taxpayer dollars defending their policy of keeping information on the scheme secret from the public. “It would appear that the administration considers it ‘crazy’ to tell the people of this State that they face the largest toll hike in history, the construction of new tollbooths to take money from commuters that use I-78, I-80 and Route 440, and the diversion of trucks and other vehicles onto local roads in unprecedented numbers,” said Kean. “The Trenton Democrats should understand that it’s their plan that is crazy, not the public debate about it.” “The people of my district who travel on I-78 deserve an answer from the Trenton Democrats on whether they will be forced to endure onerous new tolls after their secret plan is passed during the upcoming ‘lame duck’ session of the Legislature,” said Kean. “If the administration refuses to tell the people of their plan to expand the number of toll roads and collect higher tolls on the ones we already have, then they should be compelled to do so by the Government Records Council or the courts.” “The administration has already spent $4.5 million planning their post-election toll increases, and the Legislature recently voted to give them a blank check to spend even more on their road sale scheme. The Trenton Democrats should not add to this shameful tally by spending even more taxpayer dollars to conceal documents that the taxpayers have already paid for.”
