WEBBER FOR ASSEMBLYÂ FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 3, 2007Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â CONTACT: (908) 267-1613
Morris Plains, NJ — Webber for Assembly today issued the following letter calling on Larry Casha to return the healthcare benefits he received in violation of New Jersey law:Â
                                    May 3, 2007Â
Dear Mr. Casha:Â
As you are aware, yesterday I publicly called on you to return to the taxpayers of Kinnelon the value of the healthcare benefits you received in violation of New Jersey law. I write today to again ask you to repay the taxpayers.Â
You admit that you took over $38,000 in healthcare benefits as a part-time Councilman in Kinnelon. You cannot dispute the application of N.J.S.A. 40A:9-165 to those benefits, as the law requires that the “salaries, wages, or compensationâ€? of council members be set by ordinance. And you cannot dispute that there is, and never was, any Kinnelon ordinance authorizing the receipt of those benefits.Â
In the end, therefore, you cannot dispute that you obtained your benefits in violation of New Jersey law. It makes no difference whether you intentionally or mistakenly took the perks. The fact is those perks are unauthorized, and the people of Kinnelon deserve to be repaid for the benefits you wrongly obtained.Â
You and I disagree on many issues. But I hope we can agree on this one: when a wrong is committed, it needs to be corrected. Do the right thing and correct this one by refunding the money now.                                                         Â
Sincerely,                                                         Â
Jay WebberÂ
