Watch the video of Steve Lonegan's arrest

Middle Township Police arrested former Bogata Mayor and potential ’09 gubernatorial candidate Steve Lonegan on Saturday outside local school where Gov. Jon Corzine was holding a town meeting to discuss his plan to raise tolls. The school has a ban on signs. Lonegan says he was not carrying a sign. A video of the incident appears to validate Lonegan’s claims.

Lonegan is an unpaid columnist for PolitickerNJ.com.

Illegal???

What was he doing that was illegal? Nothing as far as I can see unless disagreeing with the Governor is a crime.

Is this New Jersey or Cuba???

How stupid can Corzine and his Staff be????????

Didn't they think there would be media and opponents outside of his "public meetings"? Once again, the idiot thinks he is still the chairmoron of Goldman and what he says goes and everyone bows and carries out his orders.

You are in government now bozo!!! New Jersey State goverment no less, and what you say or want doesn't carry any weight if that's not what your "subjects" in this case "taxpayers" want.

When are you and your "goldmanites" going to realize that taxpayers aren't stupid and don't want to hear you trying to tell them that you know what is best for them.

What taxpayers want is a government they can afford and less spending.

The really sad thing is that you and your idiot staff aren't going to realize that until "pigs fly over the Statehouse".

2nd class citizens

NJ residents are now 2nd class citizens in their own Republic.

One just has to wonder if and when they would ever arrest

illegals protesting ?

Wake up Dino

Of course it's a crime.  Where do you think you are?  America or someplace like that?

Corzine already looks like Karl Marx.  He's an unabashed champion of Marxist economics and now it's clear he also agrees with Marx on the role of government in stifling individual freedom of expression.

Wow..

The video does not look good at all for the police.

If there's an upside to any of this...

...Mayor Lonegan's star has risen and will continue to rise on the heels of this incident which is exactly what this state needs.

We need Steve Lonegan to become Governor of this state now more than ever.

Little Old Indiana Jones

Whose the little old Indiana Jones midget with the big fadora, sunglasses and arms folded?

He appears to act as if the cops are doing his bidding?

NJ GOP Asleep at the Wheel?

Where is everbody? I suppose Mr. Wilson and the R's in legislature support Corzine's plan and apparently don't mind so much to see one of their own silenced.

They will probably let Lonegan do all the heavey lifting to defeat this monetization plan then have Lance  swoop in and take credit for it.

Lonegan and Wilson

Mayor Lonegan is doing a great job bringing the issues that matter in New Jersey to the forefront. He started out quietly and innocently enough and is making more and more noise everyday. He is an old school politician who knows how to amass grassroots support, something the NJGOP has forgotten how to do a long time ago.

Tom Wilson and the NJGOP would be wise to overlook their differences and unite with him.

Dinodad

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.  Despite the fact that I just filed suit against the totalitarian tyrant, he was wrongfully arrested.

The United States Consitution guarantees us the right to free speech, the right to petition for redress of grievances and the right to peaceful assembly.  Apparently not in NJ.

Sadly a corrupt judicial system has legitimized these kinds of abuse.  I was arrested for Defiant Trespass at an open public council meeting in Teaneck NJ and the Appellate Division of Superior Court upheld my conviction.  Thereafter the NJ Supreme Court would not grant cert and the case is now in the AG handbook for every cop in the State.  Jersey, what a cesspool.

I still think Lonegan will look good in an orange jumpsuit but only when he is locked up for real crimes.  Stay tuned!

Bill "Gadfly" Brennan

Yes Bill, I'm all too familiar with your "I Hate Lonegan" fetish. It's been very well documented. I am also all too familiar with people who think like you and have nothing better to do than to bust people's chops in order to get publicity for yourself. People like you are a dime a dozen in Bergen and Hudson County. You're nothing special.

I seriously doubt that Mayor Lonegan fears you or any frivilous, obsessive, sociopathic lawsuit you file against him. Next thing we know, you'll probably end up doing like Joe Mocco's people in North Bergen and start plastering crazy looking homemade signs all over your house.

I think you need to find yourself a new hobby my friend.

Corzine is a true jackass

Let me get this straight:

You use the local police to squelch any dissent over a controversial plan to increase fees nobody supports and then you arrest a man who is legally blind leading that fight?

Jon Corzine is a joke. Lonegan should sue him personally for orchestrating this waste of time as well as sue the local police department in question that seems to have nothing better to do with their time other than disrupt a peaceful protest of a dozen or so taxpayers.

Call the moving van. It's time to get out of this god forsaken place.

Corzine is a despicable individual.

Bill "Catfish" Brennan

That guy is the biggest bottom feeder on the planet

Unbelievable

I guess nothing should surpirse me about NJ anymore.  A legally blind man is arrested for exercising his first amendment right.  What was he doing wrong?  Corzine and his idiots need to realize they are making this man out to be a martyr for the anti-toll/tax movement.  It's a great move on Lonegan's behalf.  If he runs for governor, he can use this video to show that Corzine had him arrested for protesting tax increases.

BENEDICT...the man with the fedora and the sunglasses next to Lonegan is former Cumberland County Superior Court Judge Paul Porecca, FYI.

Corzine's Commie roots come out!

Come on guys, we all knew that Corzine was a Communist when NJ elected him.  Why would this surprise anybody?  I wouldnt be surprised if Corzine just didnt hold an election next year cus he might get beat.  This is just sick!  Why arent more people talking about this tax-hike the way Lonegan is?  I honestly have half a mind to run down to Trenton and holler at the top of my lungs "I dissagree with the governor" just to see if I get arrested.  Mayor Lonegan, the MSU College Republicans stand with you!  Keep up the fight!

Corzine

Knowing Corzine, he probably won't even run for re-election. He'll probably run like a coward and let Dick Codey run in his place.

We need to be well prepared for that scenario.

How about another word?

It's about time we started using a new word when we reference Corzine.  That word should be RECALL.

"The only man who never makes a mistake is the man who never does anything."
                --Theodore Roosevelt--

Comrade Corzine's Propaganda Machine

Coming from an eastern European family, I grew up hearing the horror stories of Nazism and Communism - I never thought I would see that sort of tactic used here in the US. Many good men died so that we can voice our dissent.

This is a travesty. I hope that people see that that idiot Corzine's scheme is utterly without merit. If it is so darn good, why does he not let it be debated?

Corzine and his ilk should be run out of town on a rail. Their arrogance boils my blood.

Just what is so hard about solving this fiscal crisis?

This week:

  1. List every state program and the amount of money it costs
  2. Prioritize the list
  3. Fund them from top to bottom until the money is gone (important: STOP at this point)

Next week:

  1. Review every position and program to ensure that they are consistent with the needs of the people
  2. Eliminate all positions and programs not deemed absolutely essential

Moving Forward:

  1. Eliminate all quasi-public agencies and authorities
  2. Pay off the 33+ billion in debt through general funds taken from program cuts
  3. Empanel a Government Program Efficacy committee (made up of taxpayers who work in the private sector) to review continuously all programs

SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS!

Middle Twp. Blunder

I was at the townhall meeting and this was not the fault of Governor Corzine or his staff. This was a major blunder by a Middle Township School Board member who ordered that they be arrested and the MTPD, who made the ridiculous arrest. Lonegan and his associates were doing nothing illegal and this was a stupid mistake by the local folks. It's unfortunate, because it has tarred an otherwise very compelling performance by Governor Corzine.

"Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little."
- Edmund Burke

A Good Performance...

southjerseyguy wrote..." it has tarred an otherwise very compelling performance by Governor Corzine."

See that's part of the problem. Corzine's putting on a performance, a show, acting a part, trying hard to convincingly say lines he knows to be patently absurd. What we need now is the cold, hard truth and some serious cuts in spending...even though that will mean taking on the out-of-control public sector Unions. Unfortunately we won't get the truth from Cecil B. Corzine...just a "compelling performance"!

Somebody had to say it!

So true friend,

The sad thing about this is, now im not sure who to support for Governor in 09', Christie or Lonegan!?

Christie or Lonegan for governor

WELL, if you live in Ocean County YOU KNOW better than to vote for Christie.

He will base his campaign out of Ocean County, part of the reason he hasn't bothered with any of the shenanigans here.  He came to swear in the Toms River Mayor (hmmmm!).  His brother Todd Christie (who some say should be in jail because of his insider trading) has donated over $15,000 to the Ocean County Republican Finance Committee.  He was pals with McGuckin (Toms River Councilman and Republican insider) at law school.

Ocean County is overrun with political misfeasance that upon investigation will surely turn up some corruption, but without anyone to step in and tackle it, and without some real voter turnout, it will continue!

What we really need is someone NOT affilitated with ANY machine!

Shameful

It is certainly a shameful moment for local police doing arresting. I have been to Hackensack town meeting with Governor and police did not interfere with anybody. As long as you do not disturbe the order the police should not interfere. It is a shame.

this is a complete mess.

Wow, I can comment on this whole ordeal.

1.) First off, the officer's attitude was completely unwarranted considering that Steve Lonegan wasn't offering up any resistance or attitude of his own. Based on this, it is my belief that a complaint should be filed against that officer for his lack of professionalism. Although this does little, it does go into his performance record and can prevent him from receiving raises in rank or salary.

2.) The issue of whether board of ed property is private property or not, hold up a minute. BoE property is paid by taxpayers. Its getting old and tiring of hearing about "Private Properties" of all kinds paid for by yours and my tax dollars. What burns my arse in this case was that it was clearly evident that the governor clearly had an agenda, and was utilizing this property to "sell" it to the public. Although the claim can be made that private property can be used in any way that the owner sees fit, in all common sense, WE PAY FOR IT! So who owns it? Just because we "decide" to let the BoE lay claim as owner, doesn't mean they can turn around and abuse the public. Perhaps there should be a change in the BoE in that town...

3.) And then of course there is just the constant attack on civil liberties in general which really disturb me. This isn't a "rare" case, this is being proliferated constantly throughout New Jersey. Problem is most of the citizenry of New Jersey is not paying attention to it. With police officers now being able to pull you over for no reason to "see your credentials", NJ Transit police seizing camera's from railfans on public property, the fact that everyone in New Jersey has already been "Real ID'd" without their knowledge, and the constant abuse of "eminent domain" by local governments, its going to escalate unless we put an end to it right here, right now.

Point is we can accept the status quo, and just continue to come to places like this one and complain, or we can take action today, and start electing officials who truly respect the rights and liberties of ALL PEOPLE, everywhere.

Ron Paul and Murray Sabrin are just the start of it. I'd imagine that Steve Lonegan would continue the effort to reduce big government and wasteful spending. But this has got to expand into other areas as well, all the way down to the local level. More and more people are getting fed up in New Jersey, although I won't say that this is the straw that broke the camel's back, I will say that the pressure cooker is getting dangerously close to blowing its lid.

J. Douglas Fisher

Nothing better to do?

Aren't you the same Lonegan psychphant who cyberstalked me on the Wayne nj.com forum in order to oppose a windturbine (simply because I supported it) at a local car wash?

So far it is Brennan 1 and Lonegan 0 when it comes to litigation.

You failed to mention that I have repeatedly called Lonegan a liar, a criminal and a hypocrite.  You failed to mention that Lonegan sued me for saying those things AND HE LOST!

I don't file frivolous lawsuits, that is your master's game.

The fact is he falsified public records in order to avoid State bidding laws.

The fact is he LIES regularly (remember his story about the illegal aliens who "approached him for work")

Your master has bigger problems than me on his horizon, as I understand it he is soon to be arrested for real crimes while in office.  Boo hoo for you, no more AFP money to keep you blogging BS his way.

Recall Corzine!

This guy is not only totally out of touch with people of this state, he's arrogant and has allowed his staff to blatantly violate the US and NJ constitutions! It's time to send a message. Recall Corzine!

Corzine and his SS Troopers must go!!

Last year Corzine ordered the police to break the speed limits, use emergency lights for a non-emergency purpose (violation of the law), drive wrecklessly, cause an accident and stole prescious time from thousands of people sitting in the resulting traffic jam just so he could get to a photo op.

Now he has advanced to using the police as his personal SS Troopers. Do the Police and his staff greet Corzine with "Heil, Corzine?"

Not one police officer at that scene tried to defend Lonegan's Constitutional Rights, or made any attempt to stop the illegal police actions by the lead officer but stood by and watched. They are all guilty, the video is self evident. They should be fired and charged with all the laws they broke including but not limited to assult, unlawful detention, false arrest, purjury for filing a false arrest statement (dismissing it doesn't make the crime go away), kidnapping, obstruction of justice (failing to implicate those whose orders they were following, violating citizens' constitutional rights and violating citizens' civil rights. Might as well charge them for being stupid too.

I like you dude!

Right on dude!

It's not just New Jersey!

Citizens get the type of government that they will tolerate.  One only has to look to New York state to see the same type of governor.  Eliot Spitzer and Jon Corzine are two peas in a pod.  Corzine denies any involvement with involvement with Steve's arrest, just like Spitzer denied his involvement  in having his state police investigate state majority leader Joseph Bruno.  But let's see what happened:

On July 23, 2007, New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo's office admonished the Spitzer administration for ordering the State Police to keep special records of Senate majority leader Joseph L. Bruno's whereabouts when he traveled with police escorts in New York City.[29] At the direction of top officials of the Spitzer administration, the New York State Police created documents meant to cause political damage to Bruno.

I wonder if the New Jersey Attorney General has any stones?
