Worth noting is a huge load of crap from Democratic National Chairman Tim Kaine, who issued a press release last night suggesting that he never really thought Jon Corzine would win re-election. "In New Jersey, the party in power in the White House hasn't won the Governor's office since 1985... It would have been historic if not unprecedented to win one or both of these races given historical trends," Kaine wrote.
The race for Governor "turned on local and state issues and circumstances and on the candidates in each race - and despite what some will certainly claim - the results are not predictive of the future or reflective of the national mood or political environment," Kaine said. "Exit polls showed that both races turned on local issues... the President's approval ratings are better today than the share of the vote he received in 2008."

Wrong!
Corzine lost because more NJ families hate him than not and saw no redeeming value in his re-election. His numbers were never impressive and he had high disapproval ratings even before the "worst economic crisis since the Great Depression" came upon the state. He was socially inept, emotionally dispondent, and gave off the impression of a extremely cold, callious individual. But most importantly, he doesn't really understand this state and its North/South divide - Eagles and Giants, Phillies and Mets/Yankees, Bon Jovi and Springsteen, Turnpike and Parkway, Seaside and Sea Isle. He wasn't born and bred in the Garden State. He doesn't have Jersey running through his veins and that is why the voters didn't return him to Trenton.
The DNC doesn't know Jersey either which is why they waste their time spinning this crap now.
It's true
Whether Democrat or not, people just really disliked Corzine.
Another thing, that an anchor from MSNBC's Morning Joe said Corzine doesn't look like he's from New Jersey, but Christie did look like a NJ guy. Like the poster above me said, it felt like Corzine didn't know the state.
That's not a good reason not to vote for anyone, but for some people it is.
