Dumb strategy cost Voss and Wagner the endorsement
By Wally EdgeDemocrats went over the top negative in the race for State Assembly in District 38, and it cost them the endorsement of The Record. The re-election campaign of Assemblywomen Joan Voss (D-Fort Lee) and Connie Wagner (D-Paramus) sent out a "Porn and Guns" mailer attacking Judith Fisher for her connection to the pornography industry because she owns a company that sells accounting software to Playboy, and Nicholas Lonzisero for renting space in a building he owns to a gun shop.
"On the issues, we are more aligned with Wagner and Voss. They have an impressive body of legislative work already. But we, in good conscience, cannot ignore the negative tone of their campaign. For us, it is a deal-breaker," the editorial said.
The dumbest part of the Voss and Wagner strategy: their district is Democratic enough that they didn't have to worry about Fisher and Lonzisero. They went negative when they didn't have to, and it cost them The Record's endorsement, and probably a few votes.

Who cares
It is no surprise that newspapers - including the Bergen Record - are struggling for validity. At a time when people are struggling, searching for answers and accountability, the Record goes out on a limb and endorses the Junior Varsity team of Lonzisero and Fisher.
According to the editorial board, "On the [sic] ISSUES, we are more closely aligned with Wagner and Voss. They have an impressive body of legislative work already."
The endorsement for Lonzisero and Fisher, coupled with this statement, lead to two possible conclusions. Either the Editorial board is not interested in promoting legislation from the best team of legislators or they don't read their own paper.
Ultimately, to endorse a candidate for higher office on the basis of an opponents mailer is to miss the point of why people run for higher office or why they should be elected. But, at the same time, people have come to expect this sort of nonsense from editors such as Al Doblin in papers such as the Bergen Record.
Voss & Wagner show their character.
Ms. Voss and Ms. Wagner show their character by stooping so low in their advertising. If someone does not know right from wrong, how can that person decide on legislation?

Playboy is a software customer, along with Rodgers & Hammerstein, MGA Entertainment and Studio100, to name a few.
they also say that Nick Lonzisiero the other candidate promotes guns. The truth is that he owns a property that is leased to a LEGAL firearms company whose clientele include LAW ENFORCEMENT PEOPLE. He is NOT involved with the sale of guns . The Liars from the New Jersey Democratic State Committee who put this trash out did support however, Sen Joseph Coniglio , Joseph Ferriero,former BCDO Chairman,Sharpe James former Newark mayor , all CONVICTED OF CORRUPTION ,,ALSO Senator Neil Cohen an admitted CILD PORN OFFENDER.
The Democratic Leadership is corrupt and rotten to the core and will do or say anything to be elected or re-elected. Its up to you the registered Democrats of the state to reject the crooks that are running the party and lying to everone including YOU.

I agree the ad was wrong, (but really, you think R's wouldn't stoop to these kind of ads...really think they'd make the distinction if they had the money to do it) I really don't think its worth a switch of endorsement - to me this is just showing the Record is throwing away its ink. Either they think Voss&Wagners is doing a good job not.
