Dem firm polling Booker and Pallone for governor

A North Carolina-based Democratic polling is asking Democratic voters if they would prefer Newark Mayor Cory Booker or U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone (D-Long Branch) as their candidate for Governor.  The Public Policy Polling (PPP) survey is expected to be released on Thursday.

A PPP poll has Gov. Jon Corzine trailing Republican Christopher Christie, 44%-35%.

Five weeks before the 2002 general election, Democrats switched their candidate after Republican Douglas Forrester took a commanding lead in the race for United States Senator against the incumbent, Robert Torricelli.  Corzine said in July that he will not get out of the race.

One Problem

This might seem an attractive alternative to many Democrats, but there is one problem: Pallone and Booker don't have Corzine's millions of dollare to spend on the campaign and would have little time to raise campaign funds.

Debates

This must be the reason why they wanted to move all the debates back.

2nd Team will Make Christie Look Stronger

If Dems put a benchwarmer in, it will make CC look categorically stronger.   Christie/Republican slays the incumbent Obama-era Democratic Governor...

It's turning into a slam-dunk.  The Northern & Southern Counties are tired of being red-headed step-children.

Welcome Jon, to the NFL.  Stands for 'Not for Long"....

It won't happen

Here are several reasons I don't believe the switch will happen. For one thing, the Democrats don't have the leverage with Corzine they did with Torricelli. Torricelli knew he couldn't afford to blow up the Democratic party because he needed friends in high places because he needed to earn a living after leaving office. Corzine doesn't. With all the money Corzine gave the NJ Democratic party, they really can't just give him the hook, even though they would love to. Here is another thing. Even though the switch worked, the democrats got a lot of bad press. Going to the state Supreme Court a second time in just 7 years, politely asking them to break the law, will not go over well. I think the switch was a once in a generation thing.

Why not Pascrell??

Of all the D Congressmen, I think he would be the toughest opponent that Christie could face. A populist, big city mayor from northern NJ teamed up with a Lt. Gov. from southern NJ (Bonnie Watson Coleman) would be quite a ticket.
