Webber will be new GOP State Chairman

Gubernatorial candidate Christopher Christie is expected to pick Jay Webber, a freshman Republican Assemblyman from Morris County, as the new GOP State Chairman.  Webber, a strong conservative, would replace Tom Wilson as head of the state party organization.

Webber's selection, which must be ratified by a vote of the Republican State Committee, will likely please conservatives who made up most of Steven Lonegan's 42% in Tuesday's primary election.

Webber, 37, was an early supporter of Christie's bid for the Republican nomination for Governor.  He was elected to the State Assembly in 2007, four years after losing a primary challenge to State Sen. Robert Martin.  A Harvard Law School graduate, he served as a Law Clerk to New Jersey Supreme Court Justice Peter Verniero and as an aide to U.S. Rep. Bill Martini.

new GOP State Chairman

                                                !!!!! Wonderful !!!!!

Another HACK with the experience working with LOSERS.....

And I know them all that you mentioned too Wally

great pick

jay webber is excellent. smart, conservative, articulate. what a great contrast to joe cryan. fantastic choice by christie.

another not-conservative

Always supported pseudo-conservative Christie.
Not conservative on the issues. Does it matter anymore? Two Dem-Lights, comin' right up!

What an odd name...

bfair4once is such an odd name for such an unfair person. Congrats bfair for being one of the only people in the state of NJ to question Jay Webbers conservative credentials. He is young, smart, articulate--the perfect contrast to boozing, foul mouthed Joe Cryan.

A GREAT choice by Chris Christie, and a blessing for the states Republicans that Jay Webber accepted.

Get on the Bus

Great choice. It's kind of rainy out there, if your old bus broke down on the way to a losing candidate's victory lap nomination acceptance speech, the Christie / Webber line takes transfers.

Excellent Choice

Finally, a new breath of fresh air for our party. Best of luck. God bless the GOP and State Chairman, Webber. On to victory in November!

Wilson Replacement

They could have picked a tree stump and it would be a step up from the pathetic leadership of Wilson. Just ask Senator GoyaBean.

Very Solid Pick

Jay's an impressive pick. He has unquestioned conservative credentials and possesses the kind of communication skills needed to clearly contrast with the Dems. Solid choice...

Congratulations Jay!

Don't let the door hit you in the a** Tom.

Great Pick

This is exactly what our party needed. Jay's young, conservative, energetic and by no means locked into the same old way of doing things that got us where we are today. Good luck Chairman!

Bye bye tommy

As my good friends Ron & Fez would say "SEEE YAAH"

poor baby

So "gorednj" is now going to directly come after me and call me names because i called him directly out on a few postings.

I love random, self-serving comments like "you're 'one of the only people in NJ' to question Webber's conservative credentials." ??? Hmm. The measure of dislike people may have for Tom Wilson doesn't automatically measure the amount of "conservative" in Webber. We'll ALL see how real he is, especially as he's a die-hard Christie supporter. Christie's entire group is "as conservative as they need to be".And YOU were / are part of that die-hard support, so no surprises here. I'll be as"fair" to Christie (and Webber) as YOU were to Lonegan, how's that?

(P.S. And you call MY name "odd" ;)

I like the pick a lot

but I still have reservations about choosing someone who resides in a safe Republican county and legislative district. I hope he is a fast learner on the concept of competitive races.

Hard to Believe

I can't believe that Christie has stuck it to all his supporters and picked this Hack. The only reason that he supported Christie is because he knew that Loonigan could not win. Other wise he would have been in the Loonigan camp. Just another case of one lawyer taking care of another.

Excellent Choice

Jay is an intelligent, strategic and unafraid to lead conservatively. He has the experience as a staffer and an Assemblyman and will also understand the GOP's need to win back old suburbs like Clifton, Belleville and Woodbridge.

This also shows Christie is a winner and wants to change this state.

Breath of fresh air...

Wonderful!

I met Mr Webber back in 2006 and he is one of the most refreshing people I know. Smart, educated, articulate, pro-active and principled. He's exactly what we need in New Jersey.

Let's paint the state RED!

poor voting record

Anyone else find Jay Webber's voting record in the Assembly incredibly disturbing? Here is someone who has repeatedly voted against common-sense, pragmatic bills such as expansion of N.J. FamilyCare (who needs health care anyway?), against pro-environmental legislation such as urban renewable sites, and against mortgage relief for N.J. families.

Then there's Webber's views on social issues which put him more on par with the Santorum-Palin wing of the Republican Party. Civil unions for gays? Webber's against them. After all, who cares about human rights? A woman's right to choose? Not in Webber's universe. This choice speaks poorly for Christie and continues his disturbing shift to the far right-wing elements of his party. Webber has an abysmal record as an Assemblyman and is now leading his party in N.J.
