If no incumbents are defeated in their bids for re-election to the Legislature today, it will be the first time since 1995. Most at risk: State Sen. Marcia Karrow (R-Raritan), who has served in the State Senate since January; seven-term Assemblyman Michael Patrick Carroll (R-Morris Twp.); newly-elected Assemblyman John DiMaio (R-Hackettstown), and freshmen Ralph Caputo (D-Belleville) and Cleopatra Tucker (D-Newark).
Two years ago, three Essex County Democrats lost their Assembly seats: Wilfredo Caraballo (D-Newark), Oadline Truitt (D-Newark) and Craig Stanley (D-Irvington). All three had lost the backing of the Essex Democratic organization. Stanley, who lost that race by just 127 votes, is challenging Caputo and Tucker.
Assemblyman Anthony Chiappone (D-Bayonne) lost the 2005 Democratic primary two years after he ousted incumbents Joseph Doria (D-Bayonne) and Elba Perez-Cinciarelli (D-Jersey City). He has since returned to the Assembly. Joseph Azzolina (R-Middletown), who served in the Assembly from 1966 to 1972, in the Senate from 1972 to 1974, in the Assembly from 1986 to 1988, and again from 1992, lost the GOP primary in 2005 to Amy Handlin (R-Middletown). Arline Friscia (D-Woodbridge) was ousted in the Democratic primary by Joseph Vas (D-Perth Amboy).
Guy Talarico (R-Oradell) lost his Assembly seat in 2001 after redistricting put him in a new district with two other Republican incumbents. Louis Romano (D-West New York) was ousted in 1999 by Rudy Garcia (D-Union City). In 1997, five-term State Sen. Joseph Bubba (R-Wayne) was defeated by Norman Robertson (R-Clifton), a Passaic County Freeholder, after the Passaic GOP organization withdrew their support of the incumbent.

“She has already chosen the interests of the insurance industry over the health care needs of working people, she took millions from Wall Street as the economy went into a meltdown, and now she wants to purchase a job in Congress at a time when so many have lost their jobs because of the actions of big bankers and others." -- Monmouth County Democrats spokesman Mike Mangan, on Republican Diane Gooch, who is challenging U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone.

Michael Patrick
I dont know why everyone is so convinced MPC will loose.
With Bucco and Carroll going for each others' throats the last few weeks, Michael should come out fine because we all have two votes! Most people wont be voting for both of them after they cut each other down so much.

Notes on 28 and 40. I believe Caputo will easily lead in Bloomfield and Belleville, but ticket-splitting in Newark and Irvington will boost Stanley and Tucker above expectations. If Craig had focused on the two southern wards of Bloomfield more he might have upset Ralph's base in the First and Second Wards of Belleville and Second Ward of Bloomfield. I do not believe the party will unify in the 28th, which will continue to give Caputo headaches.
In the 40th, I think Dave Russo has basically conceded. Chris Christie will win statewide but Lonegan probably wins the 40th especially in Bergen. That leaves the three sons of Wayne to fight it out. Rottino and Caruso will be strong in Ridgewood, Verona, Wanaque and Franklin Lakes and will do enough in Wayne and Little Falls to win though as a super-prediction I predict this primary goes to the courts.
sewer you are dead wrong
russo has been conciliatory and that is a big difference! Rumana and Russo will trounce carusso and rotino.
