Top Ten Local Primaries

Worth watching on Tuesday: Democratic mayoral primaris in Edison, Englewood, Morristown,  Atlantic City, Plainfield, Camden and East Orange, and Republican intra-party fights in Bergen, Gloucester and Passaic counties.

Edison: Mayor Jun Choi is seeking re-election to a second term against Councilwoman Toni Ricigliano, who has the backing of the Middlesex County Democratic organization.

Englewood: Frank Huttle, a partner at one of the state's most politically powerful law firms, and Councilman Scott Reddin are facing off for the Democratic nomination.  The incumbent, Michael Wildes, is not seeking re-election.  Huttle, the husband of Assemblywoman Valerie Huttle, is running on the organization line.

Morristown: Mayor Donald Cresitello, an often controversial figure who has held local office on and off since the 1970's, faces Councilman Timothy Dougherty in the Democratic primary.

Atlantic City: Mayor Lorenzo Langford faces off against Councilman Martin Small.  Langford won a special election last year after Robert Levy resigned.

Plainfield: Mayor Sharon Robinson-Briggs is being challenged by Councilman Adrian Mapp, a former Union County Freeholder. Also in the race are Carol Ann Brokaw Boles, Martin Cox, Bob Ferraro and Thomas Turner.

Camden: State Sen. Dana Redd is being backed by the Camden County Democratic organization in her bid to succeed retiring Mayor Gwendolyn Faison.  She faces two minor challengers: Elton Custis and Eulisis Delgado.

East Orange: Three-term Mayor Robert Bowser faces Kevin Taylor, a local businessman. 

Bergen County: Eleonore Nissley is seeking a return to the Republican State Committee seat she held from 1965 until a narrow defeat in 2005.  She faces Pearl Spector, a former Franklin Lakes Councilwoman.

Gloucester County: Republican primaries for Freeholder, Sheriff and State Committee are the warm up acts for next week's race for GOP County Chair between incumbent Loran Oglesby and Franklin Township Municipal Chairman Bill Fey.

Passaic County: The feud - a war, actually - between GOP County Chairman Scott Rumana and former GOP County Chairmen Peter Murphy and Michael Mecca -- will face the voters on Tuesday, with contested primaries for County Clerk, Freeholder, State Assembly and County Committee seats.
