The most powerful person in Hoboken today is Beth Mason
By Wally EdgeThis is one of those state the obvious things, like the person who gets the most votes on Election Day will win the election: they key players in the Hoboken mayoral runoff next month are the people who voted for Beth Mason. Mason voters will decide if Dawn Zimmer or Peter Cammarano becomes the next Mayor.
In yesterday's voting, Zimmer led Cammarano by 212 votes, 3,614 (36%) to 3,402 (34%). Mason received 2,330 votes (23%), with the remaining 7% split between three other candidates.
Turnout was about the same as it was four years ago, when incumbent David Roberts was forced into a runoff with Carol Marsh: 345 less votes were cast yesterday. Exactly 10,000 votes were cast in the 2005 runoff, which Roberts won with 58% of the vote. Roberts picked up 1,958 votes, while Marsh increased her total by 1,263. Turnout in the June runoff was nearly the same as the May election: 10,331 vs. 10,000.
