If Linda Stender loses her race for Congress next week, New Jersey Democrats are prepared to blame Emily's List and other Washington-based organizations for her defeat, according to sources within the Stender campaign. The seventh district House seat has been viewed as a likely pickup for Democrats, but internal polling from both campaigns is showing that Republican Leonard Lance can win the seat that Stender nearly took away from retiring U.S. Rep. Mike Ferguson two years ago. Suddenly worried about blowing an opportunity to take a seat the GOP has held since 1956, Democrats are bringing in big guns, like former President Bill Clinton, to help Stender win.
Thanks to Barack Obama, Stender remains the favorite -- but with five days remaining in a campaign she began more than two years ago, and despite a huge financial edge and heavy spending by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Stender has not yet put this race away.
Lt. Gov. Guadagno takes on red tape in N.J. Gov. Christie Whitman declared New Jersey "open for business" in 1994 and appointed an ombudsman to lead entrepreneurs through "the expanding maze of regulation." Before her, an environmental commissioner under Gov. James Florio urged permit applicants to call him directly...
"Never forget, some of those shouting the loudest are the architects of the disaster we are now suffering. Do we really want another decade of economic failure? No, this spring it is time to clear away the underbrush to make room for growth. So, today, we stop sweeping problems under the rug. We will not hide our problems until
another day. And we are certainly not increasing the tax burden we place upon our people. Today, we are taking necessary and decisive action to reduce state spending and reform state government. The problems we have hidden for twenty years are evident for all to see. The day of reckoning has arrived. Some are saying, by their choice of policies, that we should descend further into debt and deficit, and risk driving more people out of the state with “temporary” tax increases that always turn out to be permanent. I say we must face up to our responsibility." -- Gov. Christopher Christie

may be if she had won in a Primary
it would have been different. She has had a target on her for 2 yrs now. Also, being a product of the Union County Machine has not helped her image.
BTW Pres. Bush isn't running this year nor is her opponent a shellback Republican.
Like a good liberal
Never willing to take responsibility for anything and already shifting responsibility to someone else. ...
If she loses maybe it is because she is an ultra liberal Democrat and the people of the district don't favor her ultra liberal positions or socialism.
She loses because
she's been a useless drone who followed lockstep McGreevey, Codey and Corzine down the path of bigger government, higher taxes, and corruption. She's never done anything to distinguish herself and her campaign was a sad replay of '06. Lance isn't Ferguson (or Bush), no matter how much Stender's campaign of distortions says so.
exactly..
Money advantage was meaningless because of Lance's good name recognition and reputation.
She ran as an ultra-partisan and has a record as one while Lance is winning independents and picking off soft Democrats who like him and think Stender's nothing but a mouthpiece.
I don't think she wins even if Obama dominates as predicted,New Jersey voters love ticket-splitting.
