Whitman is pro-abortion, not "pro-choice"
This isn't about "choice", it's about abortion, which is the taking of a human life.
Whitman supports abortion up to and including the day of delivery, and made that enthusiastic support a key agenda item in her eight years as Governor. It's more than an issue, to her, it's a religion.
To Whitman, those who think abortion is murder should keep those views to themselves and out of the public arena. To her, there is no legitimacy to that point of view. That is why you don't see much of her these days. As they say, "no one wants to be photographed with her."
Give me a break
It's about women being able to choose what to do with their own bodies, not just about abortions.
It is about a woman being able to choose whether to use contraception.
It is about a woman being able to choose when to have sex and with whom.
It is about a woman being able to choose whether to complete a pregnancy.
It is about a woman being able to choose whether to raise the child or give it up for adoption.
It is now and has always been about choice.
Glad to see
the Catholic Church is taking a stand.
Maybe Republicans will take a clue from this and realize they have to stop their pro-abortion liberal agenda promoting candidates from taking over the party because they cannot win without the support of Catholics. ... If Republicans want to win a statewide race they should stop promoting pro-abortion candidates and move to the Right (and stop their continued sprint to the Left).
FA makes me laugh.
Translation of FA's comments:
1) An unborn child is not a human.
2) Abortion is birth control.
3) Without abortion, no one would have sex.
4) The unborn child is not a person, only a "pregnancy"
5) Without abortions, no one would have children or adopt.
6) It's not a life, it's a choice.
I wonder sometimes whether abortion enthusiasts are really pathetic self-hating people who secretly wish their mothers had made that "choice"
Abortion
Just remember, if abortion had been freely available back in 1961, Hillary Clinton would be the Democratic nominee.
I'm pretty sure that it was
I'm pretty sure that it was not her intention to discuss this issue at the forum. This is just an overzealous clergyman flexing what little muscle he has.
Its a political shot
1) Abortion is not murder, a cluster of cells that cannot sustain itself outside of a whomb is not a person.-Yes if you ask I would define any abortion performed on a fetus that could sustain itself outside of the mother's whomb to be murder (unless of course it is to protect the life of the mother, in case where their were rape or insest etc...)
2) The only thing can can declare it human life is if you believe it has a soul at conception-Science cannot in anyway prove that a soul exists therefore you cannot define a fetus as a human
3) Everyone who does define abortion as murder has a right not to have them, and even has the right to say what they believe
4) Those of us who rexpect a woman's right to chose have the same rights.
5) Every single nation that prides itself as a "player" in the world has abortion rights, and complete seperation of church and state. The United States is behind the curve on this.
6) Fundamentalism and dogmatic black and white reasoning is archaic and has no place at the table especially when it is religiously motivated. The founding fathers could have made Christianity the way of the nation and they didnt for a multitude of reasons
This article is about Christie Whitman.
So let's limit the discussion to Christie Whitman.

the truth v. abortion rhetoric
1. All human beings regardless of their age are a cluster of cells. An unborn child (oops, dare I say the word!) is either a human being or it is not. The circumstances of one’s conception or whether their lives can be sustained outside the womb is not what determines one’s humanity. 2. It is an objective, scientific fact that a human being begins his or her existence at the moment an egg and sperm unite. This fact can be found in any standard textbook on human embryology. "[The Zygote] results from the union of an oocyte and a sperm. A zygote is the beginning of a new human being. Human development begins at fertilization, the process during which a male gamete or sperm ... unites with a female gamete or oocyte ... to form a single cell called a zygote. This highly specialized, totipotent cell marks the beginning of each of us as a unique individual.(The Developing Human: Clinically Oriented Embryology, 6th ed. )Keith L. Moore, Ph.D. & T.V.N. Persaud, Md., (Philadelphia: W.B. Saunders Company, 1998), 2-18. 3. Many religions believe what has already been verified by science. 4. The founding fathers pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor on the self evident truth that all men (yes and women) are created equal and endowed with inalienable rights that cannot be taken away by government – the first of these being the right to life. 5. Every human being’s rights end where another human being’s rights begin. Abortion is an act of violence that brutally takes the life of a defenseless innocent child. This is the "choice" you say you "rexpect" (I think you meant respect) and support. 6. Kudos to Bishop Smith for objecting to having Christine Todd Whitman appear as a keynote speaker at a Catholic Institution's women's leadership forum. The Bishop has every right to express what he believes and he did that by ensuring that Whitman was uninvited.
SJBlue forgets one thing
His hero Barack Obama repeatedly voted to let "doctors" kill a child who was supposed to be aborted but survived.
Admit it Blue, you and your ilk just hate Catholics, except the phony ones like Biden and Pelosi who think they know Catholic doctrine better than the Pope.
It seems that those who preach "tolerance" are the ones who have the least amount of it themselves.
Blue's views were quite the vogue at one time -- in the 1920s when people like Blue donned white sheets and burned crosses in an attempt to stop the "Papists" from taking over America. They are the reason a great man -- Al Smith -- never became President. John F. Kennedy is rolling over in his grave seeing the radical bigots who took over his party.
Hey Mountaintop and Gang......
Answer the questions, how many children have you fostered? How many children have you adopted? How many single moms on welfare have you supported? How many children without parents have you mentored? How many times have you said you wanted government out of your lives except in the doctors office or in the bedroom? You wear your freaking religion on your sleeve. Listen up kids - the eucharist should never divide!!!! GET IT????????!!!!!!!!! Get it GOP, stop the infighting. Stop the bashing. You can't respect the pro-choice members of your party, then take a hike dudes. Whitman is a former GOP governor. You don't know about agreeing to disagree. Ronald Reagan would kick your butt. Your never going to win with your way of exclusion. You friggin answer the questions before you talk about a womens right to choose. It's about time people stood up to you. You don't speak for the GOP. You make me sick with your lack of respect for those who differ in opinion.
With "Republicans" like Whitman...
Like her heroes Gerald Ford and George Bush Sr. and Jr. did nationally, her liberal philosophy destroyed the Republican Party here in New Jersey.
The only people who disagree with this also think McCain buried Obama last night.
Fortunately, Ronald Reagan and Newt Gingrich came along, armed with a strong set of conservative beliefs, to drive snakes like you out of GOP leadership positions so we could win again. No doubt a new leader will come forward in New Jersey in the coming weeks to drive these same snakes out of the New Jersey Republican Party. When that happens, we will win once more, as I expect will happen in the 2009 Governor's race.
Thor, obviously having or facilitating an abortion is more important to you than lower taxes, less government and fewer government regulations. You should be a Democrat if being pro-abortion is such a high priority issue for you.
And Ronald Reagan made a career of kicking the butts of people like you who claim to be Republicans but in fact are liberal Democrats masquerading as members of the party of Reagan.
You need to calm down. Perhaps you feel guilty about some "choice" that you may have made at some point in your life. You should stop taking out your feelings about that "choice" on others and take personal responsibility for the "choices" you've made.
Patrick...
I'm a bit confused by your comments:
"Just remember, if abortion had been freely available back in 1961, Hillary Clinton would be the Democratic nominee."
Are you saying that Barack Obama's mother would have aborted Barack if she had the choice back in 1961?
Just wanted to clarify it a bit so I understood.

I am
I am a Catholic. I find your comments to be disrespectful. As a man I have not authority to make judgements on what a woman decides to do with her body, I will never understand what it is like to be a woman or pregnant, but I am positive that women can make up their own minds. As a Catholic it is not my right to demand that my convictions should be everyone elses. I am not anti-Catholic, I was married in a Catholic church, my children have been Baptized Catholic, and attend CCD classes. Despite my faith, I am a rational human being and am not afraid to question my leaders in any aspect of my life. The Pope is a man, I read what Jesus said and do my best to live my life according to his teachings, for you to suggest that I am akin to the KKK is insulting, ignorant and it completely shows your lack of understanding, and insight not too mention intelligence
SJBLUE
It is a shame you here...........I'm Catholic you're NOT..........
