Is Lautenberg too old? Two polls disagree

Two independent polls released today on the race for United States Senator offer conflicting data on the question of Frank Lautenberg's ability, at age 84, to serve another six-year term: more than half the voters polled by Quinnipiac University say yes, while less more than two-thirds of Monmouth University/Gannett poll voters disagree.  Both polls have Lautenberg leading Republican Dick Zimmer by about the same margin.  Patrick Murray, who runs the Monmouth/Gannett poll, offers an explanation in his blog, which is worth the read.

Age is not the issue, ideology is

Forget the fact that he is old, the important issue is whether he shares the values and priorities of the people of NJ. Paraphrasing our President (who, honestly, I quote/paraphrase very infrequently ... mostly because there are not too many pearls to choose from) ... You are either with us, or you are with the terrorists (i.e. big government, big taxes, socialist Democrat party). If we are to achieve real reform in this country, we need to get rid of these socialists. We need to reform government by shrinking it. We need government to get out of the way of the American people. Allow the people of this state and this country to hold onto more of their hard earned money, so they can spread their wings through growing new companies, finding solutions (like alternative energy) through a competitive free-market system. He is just another proponent of "Government as the answer." Whenever government gets involved with any program, we have waste, low competency, low expectations, no accountability and low productivity." IT IS TIME FOR REAL CONSERVATIVE VALUES (NOT THE BIG SPENDING TYPE OF GWB's TERM) LIKE LOW TAXES, SMALL GOVERMENT, CUT SPENDING,AND STRONGER STATE'S RIGHTS. WE NEED REFORM ... RONALD REAGAN STYLE !!
