The race to replace Ferriero begins

Editor's Note: Paul Fader has indicated that he is not interested in seeking the Bergen County Democratic Chairmanship, and told PolitickerNJ.com that he has not made any phone calls indicating his interest or seeking support.  The Inside Edge gives him the benefit of the doubt and accordingly, retracts our report.

Joe Ferriero's
recent legal woes -- allegations that he assaulted a woman at a Labor Day barbecue at his home, and a federal probe of a grants business in which he is a part owner that resulted in the FBI seizing records from his law office -- have resulted in his taking a leave of absence from his post as Bergen County Democratic Chairman.  Sensing a possible vacancy in the powerful post sometime in the near future, Paul Fader, a former Mayor of Englewood who served as Chief Counsel to Governors James E. McGreevey and Richard Codey, has begun making calls to seek support for Ferriero's job.

Fader is a partner at a politically powerful law firm that includes former Gov. Jim Florio, Democratic powerhouse Michael Perucci, and Warren County GOP Chairman Douglas Steinhardt.  He's close to South Jersey Democratic leader George Norcross, and was once a staffer for Bob Torricelli.  But watch for Fader to find at least one formidable opponent: he has a strained relationship with his predecessor as Englewood Mayor, U.S. Rep. Steve Rothman.  Look for Rothman to push former Leonia Mayor for the job.  And don't count State Sen. Loretta Weinberg out as a potential candidate for County Chairman, if Ferriero resigns.

Does this guy Fader

have unimpeachable integrity? if not he needs to keep looking. Bergen County needs CHANGE!

FADER = NORCROSS

I don't think Rothman will let that happen.

Another Lawyer ?

looking for county contracts,

This is not REFORM

Another former Leonia Mayor, but with integrity

Robert Pacicco the former Mayor of Leonia, a business man who owns a Jewerly store and the current Municipal Chairman fits the bill of someone the Democrat Party needs at this time, not another attorney that is part of the same pay to play crew. Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men Only the shadow knows.......

Go Go Go Loretta Go Go for BCDO

Chairwoman! No ifs ands or buts that means a big change for us in Bergen County...Because Senator Weinberg speaks power to truth; and doesn't act like she was born, yesterday! And we don't need any more spin like that in Jersey. And so the story goes, she knows how to beat back and fight the foes; and at the same time, stand up for change and government transparency. Loretta is very persistent, emphatic and consistent about upholding public service values and ethics; and she's not afraid to say, "Hey, I know the difference between a cold dark place and the light of day. And I can see right from wrong without my eye glasses! And to boot, I can smell the stench of a trumped up "Bridge To No Where 2" faux deal from Rutherford to Wasilla and back to Brielle! At this place and time, we don't need a "living in between the lines" BCDO Party Chairman, oh no"

It's your time in the sun...So run Loretta run run run for Democratic Party County Chairwoman!

WEINBERG HAS NO ORGANIZATION

The problem with Loretta is that she has no organization on the ground and she surrounds herself with people who make no effort to create one.

Do not count Ferrierocrats out yet!

Rothman is no starter. Sen. Weinberg has no interest in this mess. She is too busy electing Obama/Biden. Who else is left from the Real Democrats? There is Assemblyman/Council member Johnson; however, there is no room for dual office holders there. Another Ferrierocrat will take over with the bosse’s blessing. Gov. Corzine will give him a hand personally.

Wiel is off on Rothman

Rothman is a starter when he wants to be. Remember what he did to Ferriero in the Lautenberg race? There's no way that he'll let Fader become Chairman.

Tedeschi for Chairman

I was visiting some family in Lyndhurst before and I picked up The Record. Joe Tedeschi's comments made a lot of sense. It seems like the Bergen Democrats need someone pragmatic who can work with both the remaining Ferriero and Weinberg factions.

Ferriero Faction ?

if the Democrats want real change in Bergen there can't be a Ferriero Faction period. This is like having a Goebbels faction in the German Bundestag. Loretta has a lot of clean up work to do after this mess.

Being Realistic

Ferriero clearly needs to be rooted out and is network but there are lot of Democrats in working-class parts of Bergen that need someone who understands their needs and will stop the War of the Roses of the last few years. Thats why someone like Joe Tedeschi or someone else from a town in southwest Bergen should be seriously looked at. Joe is also friendly with Rothman.

Wally Edge, What's the Real Story, Here?

Who is dealing and praying out loud for the Bergen County Democratic Party Chairperson job? And where is the Wally Edge when you need it the most?

Weinberg's lack

of organization? C'mon.

Weinberg's organization speaks louder than words

Not to mention her yeowoman's actions and accomplshments over the long haul of time.

There staring us straight in the eyes.

No small feat!

Rothman is the key.

Should Chairman Ferriero need to resign, the BCDO in all liklihood will look to Congressman Rothman to fill the massive political void that would be created by such a resignation or removal.

Look for Rothman to act responsibly and try to find a candidate that can raise money and run the party in that fashion.

Fader is a disciple of Torricelli and the last thing Bergen County needs is a Torricelli descendant running party operations.

A majority of the county committee will look to Rothman to keep things together. Unless Weinberg herself runs for the position, there is no one in her camp that even resembles a county chair.

One is hopeful these allegations are just that, but obviously people are already dancing on the grave of someone who is assumed politically dead.

Ferriero has great personal relationships with many mayors and county committee people in all of the towns, it will be impossible for a guy like Fader to run without the blessing of a Rothman or a McNerney as elected leaders.

Keep in mind that other statewide influences will also play a role in the process and i'm sure Hudson County decision makers will not stand on the sidelines should the forces of Camden play a role in any chairman's battle down the road.

Vote Column A - All the way!

Are you insane?

Didn't Tedeschi runs against Rothman in 2000?

Loretta Weinberg is the best choice in light of all

that has gone on and what's best for the county committee.
I thoroughly enjoy campaigning behind the scenes, getting to know voters and giving rousing and very enthusaistic surrogate
speeches and organizing in aupport of Loretta Weinberg for Chairperson of the BCDO.

In the follow-up to this Fader article I have posted the following related reply:

I know full well that I could not get elected dog catcher! Joe's Cryan and Ferriero, and their Closter Dem Chairman Jack Kelly got explcit orders to stop RBD Kathy Callahan. Sheriff Leo Maguire and the poll workers provided explicitly clear reinforcement.

I know that I have no future whatsoever in Democratic party elected office! Period. Cryan/Ferreiro made that abundently clear to me.

Dems, Your Sympathy For Ferierro...

...is touching.

Are you on the payroll?

Or do you just wannabe?

Meanwhile, I agree with you that it's way premature to count him out....not because he's an "innocent"; but because no one should underestimate the power of money and the power of information.

Joe Ferierro could probably put a hundred people behind bars at the drop of as hat if he ever really "came clean".

So long as JF keeps his "little black book" well hidden, and his mouth shut,  he's probably safe.......on the other hand if Christie really does his job and forces Joe to "rat" everyone out, I would be happily surprised!

This isn't the "The Wizard of Oz" where all evil is concentrated in one individual...and people can sing "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead".....our corruption problem is systemic....it's not just one man or one party.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Joe back on his throne in 09......again, I would love to be wrong on that.

The whole system is corrupt, even if JF is out of the picture...the corruption will march on until the people of NJ force an end to it by throwing all the bums out.

I don't think Loretta wants the job....and  it's true that the RBD's don't yet have the numbers and the organizaton to take the BCDO from the hacks by force.

In an ideal/decent world, a young newcomer with real ethics and real integrity would be drafted by the BCDO just because it's the right thing to do....but we don't live in that world.......yet.   If we did live in such a world, someone with unimpeachable integrity and competence like  Tenafly Councilwoman Carol Hoernlein would be my pick (if she would take the job).

From Frederick Douglass

If there is no struggle there is no progress......Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will.

If the above post doesn't prove what a fool you truly are,

Then nothing will prove your stupid comments need to stay on "IGNORE, LIBERAL FOOL DOES NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT HE SAYS"

Vote Column "A" - All the way!

Can it be someone is

Can it be someone is actually interested in working for the good of the Democratic party and not for his own personal gain? Unless Pacicco intends on setting up jewelry booths at county conventions he will not be making any money for himself by compromising the integrity of the BCDO or its members. Bob was always a man of his word, inclusive, and for the good of the party. C'mon Bergen Dems.... give it serious thought!!!
