Christie can't attend GOP convention

U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie can’t attend the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis next month – his job as a federal prosecutor precludes his attendance at political events – so he’s sending his brother to represent his interests as a potential candidate for the 2009 Republican nomination for Governor.  Todd Christie, the former Spear, Leeds & Kellogg CEO, will head a group of Christie supporters at the convention.

to send an undercover campaign oeprative. Unless his brother was going already this will smell too political. There are no secrets in politics....

Disrespectful to the office of USA

I think we can all agree on this much: that it is paramount for the federal prosecutor position to remain far beyond the appearance of partisanship.

If so, then Christie's proxy campaign for governor is the height of disrespect for his office. I guess that shouldn't come as a surprise, though, since he and his brother bought the office in the first place. And then used the office to return the favor monetarily.

And so it continues. The candidate (by proxy) is now sending out daily talking points about his positions; he is attending (by proxy) political events. All at the same time he is prosecuting political figures of the opposing party (to be accurate, also by proxy).

Judge Martini came pretty close to admonishing him for allowing his political judgment to cloud his prosecutorial decisions, and in the process he wound up securing a shorter prison term for Mr. James than Christie himself felt the public was owed.

What is it going to take for Christie to place the public's interests ahead of his own personal political well-being? Has he no shame?

Christie Needs to Resign

I think Christie has done a fine job during his tenure as the U.S. Attorney, but he is crossing a line into the overtly political with stunts like this.

He needs to follow the lead of his fellow U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Patrick Meehan, and step down immediately if he is interested in running for Governor. Meehan has made no secret that he is interested in running for governor of Pennsylvania in 2010, so he stepped down last month (two years in advance of the election) to avoid the appearance of impropriety. And yet, Chris Christie, who has built his reputation on taking down unethical politicians, thinks it's ok to remain in office?!?!

I'm finally convinced that he's drinking the Kool-Aid.

What Interests?

His interests???? If his Brother is part of a Christie For Governor campaign and is working at the direction of Chris , is that not against the rules imposed on federal prosecutors.

Christie must come out publicly and disavow any knowledge or support of a "Christie for Governor "campaign being run by his brother. The only " interests " Christie is allowed to have are those interests regarding his Office.

Christie can't have things both ways. His Brother has to come clean.

Who cares?

Let him do what he wants.

Why let facts get in the way of "Christie Bashing"

Todd Christie has attended the last two republican conventions. He has been a fundraiser for President Bush, as well as a National Fundraising Committee member for John McCain. Democrats are grasping at straws and looking quite desperate .

Top 10 facts that disqualify Christie from the office of USA

1. He is a partisan candidate for political office.

2. He has used his office to monetarily compensate those who appointed him to it.

3. He has used his office to smear those with political views other than his, and then not pursued a case against them.

4. He has used his office to raid two opposing political operations, thus gaining unfair knowledge and insight into his opponents' operations.

5. He has allowed political calculations to drive his professional decision-making -- and thus wound up depriving the public of what he believed to be appropriate sentences.

6. He and his brother bought the office, after he was deemed unqualified for it.

7. He routinely breaks the law by leaking confidential proceedings to the media, in exchange for favorable treatment.

8. A federal judge slapped him down for wildly unrealistic overreaching.

9. He ducked congressional hearings into his unethical hiring practices.

10. He is sending out proxies for his political candidacy on a regular basis, all while clinging to the office that he uses as a platform for said candidacy.

He's got some serious ethical issues of his own... maybe not the best surrogate.

CC should be hiding his brother, not putting him out front.
