It’s only been about five weeks since Joseph Vas left his post as Mayor of Perth Amboy, but he’s already mulling a comeback. Vas wants to challenge incumbent Wilda Diaz, who beat him handily last May, in 2012.
But first, Vas needs to hold on to his nineteenth district State Assembly seat when he comes up for re-election next year. His threat to run again for Mayor might just be a ploy to keep his seat in the Legislature.

big trouble
Vas's Assembly seat is in big trouble. Without Perth Amboy as a base, the Middlesex power brokers are going to come after that seat.
2012 in 2008!
It is six years away. I wonder if Assembly Vas will be around by then.
Giving up the Ass seat
If he runs for Mayor he would have to give up his Assembly seat - I think the grandfather clause was for those serving in both and continue too - a loss of his Mayor seat takes him out of being grandfathered.
2012?
Don't worry about Joe Vas. Let's look at Wilda's record thus far...
Wilda raised taxes in Perth Amboy by $10.2 million dollars within the first ten days of being in office.
The city's parks are in deplorable and utter run down conditions.
There has been a shooting, a stabbing and a drowning since Wilda took over. Crime has risen by 21% in the last 30 days.
Joe Vas won't have to wait until 2012 to run for Mayor again because there will be a recall within 18 months of her taking office.
