Gloria Bontempo, the widow of former Democratic State Chairman Salvatore Bontempo, passed away on Sunday. She was 82. Her son, Paul Bontempo, is a Trenton lobbyist.
Salvatore Bontempo served in Gov. Robert Meyner’s cabinet as Commissioner of Conservation and Economic Affairs from 1958 to 1961, and in the Kennedy administration as administrator of the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Security and Consular Affairs in 1961. When Meyner won the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in 1969, he picked Bontempo as the Democratic State Chairman.
