Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy has named a top advisor to his possible ’09 opponent to the Municipal Utilities Authority – a move that could affect the next mayoral race and tomorrow’s Democratic primary for U.S. Senate. Cardwell was one of the architects of Sandra Cunningham’s 2007 State Senate race, and of the late Glenn Cunningham’s campaigns for Mayor in 2001 and State Senator in 2003. Sandra Cunningham is reportedly interested in challenging Healy for mayor next year. Cardwell is also the primary Jersey City/Hudson County operative overseeing Rob Andrews’ Senate campaign. Will Cardwell, now a happy camper, not work terribly hard turning out Andrews votes in tomorrow’s primary – thus not embarrassing Healy, the Hudson County Democratic Chairman, who is backing Frank Lautenberg?

good job Healy
I don't think the primary tomorrow is much of an issue with this appointment. I'm sure the pieces for the Andrews turnout were already in place, and Cunningham still supports Andrews.
But, this is a brilliant move by Healy for his '09 race. It shows there WAS some sort of a deal in that meeting last week. Cunningham will have Healy's continued Senate support, plus his support for new running mates (maybe) and will have some of her loyalists in City Council seats too.
Leopard doesn't change its spots....
Anyone who knows Hudson knows that no deal or alliance among rivals is forever.
May 09 is a long way off.
We'll see if this deal holds, but don't hold your breath.
Sandy sells out again and again
Sandra Bolden loves to talk about honoring her husband's legacy, but she is the complete opposite of everything that Glenn represented. Glenn was “Unbought and Unbossed”. Sandy has sold out in each of the last 4 primary elections. First she sold out in 2006 to Donald Scarinci when she gave Menendez a free pass to the U.S. Senate. Her price? Scarinci filling the coffers of the Cunningham Foundation that she receives an annual salary for running. In 2007 Sandra makes up with Harvey Smith, the man she banned from Glenn’s funeral, and runs on the Hudson Democratic Organization Line, after accusing the HCDO of causing Glenn’s fatal heart attack by creating so much stress in his life. Going into Super Tuesday Sandra was with Hillary Clinton and then went with Obama after Healy bought her and Cardwell’s support by continuing to purchase tons of ads in the Urban Times with tax dollars. Now in 2008 Sandra and Joe Cardwell have helped pad Cardwell’s political 401K and gotten him free medical insurance with this MUA appointment. Gotta give it to Sandra Bolden, she is consistent. She never misses a chance to sell out.
Ray Lesniak really looks like a real moron this primary cycle. He failed to deliver Joe Ferriero and Brian Stack, and then brought Sandra to the table who in turn sold Andrews out. Lesniak is a rank amateur and Sandra is a Creature of Opportunity. The only one who is buying that Sandra is still independent is that half wit Lou Manzo who will believe anything if it means he has a chance to get back into office. Lou can only do two things mooch publically funded insurance contracts and run for office (and lose time after time). By this time next year L. Harvey Smith will show that he is the true political leader in Ward F, not Sandra Bolden. Sandy should just go back to Newark instead of being a carpet bagger who leaches off the hard working tax payers of Jersey City. Lesniak should consider writing another book titled “The 2008 U.S. Senate Primary: How it executed my career!”
