Ex-Governor takes sides in Burlco GOP battle

This one is interesting: former Governor Christine Todd Whitman and the Republican Leadership Council (RLC) is taking sides in the Republican primary for Burlington County Clerk and Freeholder.  Whitman is backing Lauri Sheppard for County Clerk,  and Jon Shevelew and Debbie Sarcone for Freeholder.  The three are challenging the candidates backed by the powerful Burlington County Republican organization, which is run by two onetime Whitman allies, County Chairman Bill Layton and the de facto party leader, Glenn Paulsen.

Layton and Paulsen have been feuding with State Sen. Diane Allen.

Joining Whitman in taking sides in the Burlington Clerk/Freeholder primaries was John Danforth, a former three-term United States Senator from Missouri and the former United States Ambassador to the United Nations.

Republican Losership Council

Wow. Ultra Liberal Christie Whitman endorses renegade slate.

This is Whitman's biggest screw up since her pension bond scam. When is Christie going to realize that New Jersey Republicans don't need her or her followers.

Whitman and the Republican Losership Council should stay out of Burlington County GOP politics.

You are right

Whitman always turns up like a bad penny - she just wont go away. Why does she feel the need to stick her big nose in the Burlington County Republican's business? Is she advising the malcontent Republicans on a new bond sceme for Burlington County? I just wish she would go away, Whitman had her time now it's time to leave.

Great Day in Burlington

Hopefully the endorsment of Governor Whitman and the nationaly respected RLC will help the Right Choice Candidates bring victory and reform on June 3.

Great to see the Governor stepping up and supporting an end to the corruption that has ruled politics in Burlington County for too long.

I sure these liberals will carry the day for your candidates. BTW isn't Whitman the person who voters blame the most for the fiscal situation our state is in? I'm sure those conservative primary voters are going to love to hear about this endorsement.

What is the RLC thinking?

Why would a pestigious national group get involved in a rinky dink GOP primary in New Jersey? This endorsement is silly. The RLC needs to get their act together and not involve themselves in petty political squabbles.

Funny thing, Kate Whitman leaves and the whole organization goes down the toilet!

Whitman

Governor Whitman was very popular back in her time in office.

The democrats are using her has a scapegoat for many things because of their inability to lead w/o creating new taxes and debt.

Many Republicans remember how low taxes were and how great things were under Whitman. I am sure this endorsement will help for these Burlington County Candidates.

People will vote for them as a result of this endorsement.

One issue group

All they care about is abortion. Their main issue no doubt is opening more abortion clinics in Burlington County.

What happened to my post?

I guess Whitman doesn't like being called out.

Maybe next time she will keep out of Burlington County GOP business.
