New Jersey Supreme Court Justice Virginia Long has four years left before she reaches the mandatory retirement age of seventy, but there is some speculation in higher echelon political circles that she will retire early – opening up another Supreme Court appointment for Gov. Jon Corzine before he seeks re-election in November 2009. Long turns 70 in March 2012.
Long, who served as state Banking Commissioner under Gov. Brendan Byrne, and was named an Associate Justice by Gov. Christine Todd Whitman in 1999. Long holds a Democratic court seat and Corzine would presumably name another Democrat to the post. Before he passed away last year, Rider University Professor David Rebovich was the most quoted man in New Jersey politics. Partisan Court appointments
It is disappointing at best to hear New Jersey Supreme Court seats referred to as Democratic or Republican. It seems that the Supreme Court is supposed to be above politics. But of course this is New Jersey where everything governmental is for sale.
Her retirement is not early
No NJ Supreme Court Justice can take early retirement; they are all already too late. They have terminally wounded New Jersey with diabolical, irrational, imbecilic decisions like Abbot, Mt. Laurel, School Construction orders, and then acknowledging the unconstitutionality of state bonding without refferendum but then say it is OK to trample on our rights for now, but don't do it again. What kind of Bull S--t was that? NJ would be better without a Supreme Court than these charlotans. Give us a break!
Dump them all and yield to the Federal Court.
We should all be singing "Send Out the Clowns!"
Sorry for the rant but the only thing this Court is suited for is land fill.
