Rahway GOP Says “NO” to Fire Department Lay-offs
Rahway – In what could be called the worst case of political grandstanding in recent memory Rahway Democrats who are seeking reelection recently used a city council business meeting as the venue for a staged attempt to scare voters. Led by City Council President Sammy Steinman, the Rahway Democrats appear to have teamed up with City Business Administrator Peter Pelissier to pull a charade on the Rahway citizenry in attendance as well as those watching the meeting on television at home. In addition, a large contingent of Rahway Fire Dept. members was directed to attend this meeting by the city B.A.
Aledging that he spoke to a Republican Council Candidate after last month’s meeting, Mr. Pelissier said “this candidate discussed with me how he would consider cutting taxes.” Sammy Steinman, who represents the 6th Ward in Rahway, chimed in that he “had listened in” to this aledged discussion and went on to erroneously announce “the Rahway GOP wants to lay-off firemen.”
“Never has a Rahway GOP candidate campaigned on or stated publicly that they would reduce the Fire Department,” said Rahway Republican Committee Chairman Patrick Cassio.
Pointing out that the Rahway City council is controlled 8-1 by Democrats, Cassio asked, “where is this year’s City Budget and why is it 2-1/2 months late again? How can anyone be sure that the Democrats themselves are not planning lay-offs after all they have the votes and they control this budget, not the Rahway GOP.”
According to the GOP the Rahway Business Administrator has a long history of intentionally spinning issues to confuse the taxpayers; Cassio reminds the voters how the sale of city hall was hidden until after the last election.
Seeking answers the GOP is asking why Rahway has high property and sewer taxes that are inflicting hardships on the residents and in response the Rahway Democrat politicians just continue to deceive the voters. They show by their own actions how out of touch they really are with the hard working families in Rahway especially when they use a publicly funded meeting to conduct a staged political skit to scare the voters, Cassio explained.
Chairman Cassio announced to the firemen in attendance after the meeting that the GOP does not want layoffs and emphasized that the Democrats, in power, are the only ones talking about it.
