Turano takes another crack at commission in Nutley
By Max Pizarro, PolitickerNJ.com ReporterNUTLEY - Frank Turano is running for the Board of Commissioners a second time because he wants to apply common sense business practices to local government. As owner of his own kitchen design business for 30 years, he says he knows something about budgeting and delivering services.
"We have a lot of overhead in Nutley, and I want to consolidate resources while still maintaining the quality of life here," said the 72-year old Nutley native, owner of Kitchens by Turano.
Turano ran four years ago and finished in seventh place.
"Everybody was telling me that we did very well considering we only ran a two-month campaign," said Turano. "I did very well for not politicking, do you understand what I'm saying?"
This year he wants to build on that 2004 performance. He is one of eight candidates for five seats on the Board.
"I've been preparing for this campaign for the last eight months to a year," said Turano. "I'm putting up signs, sending out brochures. It's a simple message. I know budgets. I know challenges. That's been my life."
Also in the race for the Nutley Board of Commissioners: Mayor Joanne Cocchiola, Commissioner Mauro Tucci, Commissioner Carmen Orechio and Commissioner Tom Evans; and challengers Al Petracco, Sal Olivo and Joseph Scarpelli.
