GREENWALD & LAMPITT PRAISE NJ’S PROGRESS IN CLOSING ACHIEVEMENT GAP; HAIL IMPROVEMENTS UNDER GOV. CORZINE
(CHERRY HILL) – Assembly Budget Chairman Louis D. Greenwald and Assemblywoman Pamela R. Lampitt on Tuesday praised the progress made under Gov. Jon S. Corzine in closing the achievement gap between African American, Latino, low-income students and their classmates.
As U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan and Corzine visited the Rosa International Middle School in Cherry Hill to honor students, teachers and administrators for being named a 2009 NCLB Blue Ribbon School, Greenwald and Lampitt noted a recent study indicated the percentage of New Jersey students proficient in math and reading increased throughout the state between 2006 and 2008.

“Despite the worst fiscal situation since the Great Depression, Gov. Corzine and the Democratic Legislature made education a top priority in the state budget and invested more money into our classrooms,” said Greenwald (D-Camden). “The education investments we’re making enhance our quality of life, build stronger communities and provide for continuing economic growth, and these latest numbers clearly show a positive trend for all our children.”
“Improving education for children throughout New Jersey has been a top priority for Gov. Corzine and the Democratic Legislature and the results show we’re on the right path,” said Lampitt (D-Camden). “With Gov. Corzine, we share an unwavering commitment to creating an educational environment that guarantees an equal opportunity for success for every New Jersey child. We know the foundation for our state’s continued economic success is a quality education for every child, from pre-school through high school and beyond.”
