DeANGELO, MILAM, ALBANO & MORIARTY PUSH CONSUMER PROTECTION LEGISLATION

DeANGELO, MILAM, ALBANO & MORIARTY PUSH CONSUMER PROTECTION LEGISLATION

Measure Would Invalidate Any Consumer Contract That Requires Consumers to Give Up Their Right To File A Complaint

(TRENTON) – Amid continued concern about consumer fraud, Assemblymen Wayne P. DeAngelo, Nelson T. Albano, Matthew W. Milam and Paul Moriarty are pushing legislation to invalidate any contract that requires customers to waive their right to file a consumer fraud complaint.

The bill (A-2465) would nullify any contract that contains language negating the ability of a consumer to contact either law enforcement or state, county or municipal authorities to file consumer complaint.

“When companies are using contract clauses that force consumers to waive their right to file a complaint, something must be done,” said DeAngelo (D-Mercer/Middlesex). “Preventing a customer from filing a complaint undermines New Jersey’s long standing tradition of consumer protection. Without such protection, the ability monitor a business’ compliance with existing law is severely compromised.”

“Consumers should have the right to purchase goods and services from providers and have them live up to the terms they negotiated,” said Milam (D-Atlantic/Cumberland/Cape May). “If those consumers have no right to file a complaint with the appropriate authorities when the terms of that agreement are not met, then we have situation where we need to step up and make sure our consumers are protected.”

“One of the top lessons we’ve learned from this global recession is that more needs to be done to protect against consumer fraud, “ said Albano (D- Atlantic/Cumberland/Cape May). “It’s essential that we not allow residents to be taken advantage of in such an egregious way.”

“Quite simply, this is a common sense consumer protection bill, when you consider how there really is no valid reason why someone would demand a consumer waive their right to file a complaint,” said Moriarty (D-Gloucester/Camden).

The measure has been approved 79-0 by the Assembly and has now been referred to the Senate Commerce Committee for more consideration.

Say no to Christie and Corzine. Vote Daggett

Don't by that GOP non-sense that Daggett is a plant funded by Corzine.

Fact is Daggett has no funds at all.

Futhermore, Chris Daggett nailed Christie and Corzine for corruption in 3rd Debate

You really have to hand it to Chris Daggett. Not only did he stand toe to toe with Jon Corzine and Chris Christie he really nailed it to them in the 3rd NJ  Gubernatorial Debate. Once again, for the third time in a row, I give this as a notch for Daggett.

Chris Daggett handed it to both Christie and Corzine for corruption saying to fight corruption you need to lead by example.

Daggett then cited specific corrupt activities that Christie and Corzine had engaged in, including illegal campaign finance and pay to play, and neither Corzine or Christie could defend themselves.

Instead, Corzine acknowledges that activity is going on and agrees with Daggett that it needs to stop.
