SPEAKER ROBERTS: PRIVATE JOB GROWTH AN ENCOURAGING TREND
(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Joseph J. Roberts Jr. (D-Camden) released the following statement today after new employment figures showed New Jersey created 2,900 new private sector jobs in August:
“The new employment numbers show we have more work to do to guide New Jersey through the global recession, but they also show we’re making real progress when it comes to creating private sector jobs. That’s encouraging for New Jersey workers and business alike.
“Private businesses have now added jobs for two consecutive months, with six of the 10 top industries adding workers to their payrolls. That’s clearly a positive trend, especially considering the accompanying decrease in public sector employment.
“It’s fascinating to note how the naysayers – those who have done nothing to create a job nor offered any real solutions to the global crisis – are now criticizing private sector job growth and the streamlining of government jobs.
“Apparently, they would rather struggling private businesses and bloated government payrolls. That would not serve New Jersey taxpayers, but that’s seemingly their wish.
“Gov. Corzine and legislative Democrats have been hard at work positioning New Jersey to succeed by creating new private jobs and investing in our infrastructure and schools. We will continue those efforts as New Jersey leads the way in the coming economic recovery.”
