WAGNER BILL PROVIDING FOR OPEN SPACE PRESERVATION PASSES ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE (TRENTON) – Legislation sponsored by Assemblywoman Connie Wagner to help preserve open space has been approved by an Assembly panel. “This is a smart investment in our future and one the voters supported,” said Wagner (D-Bergen). “We’re combating sprawl, protecting our environment and water quality and preserving open space and creating parks that will be enjoyed in Bergen County for generations to come.” The preservation funding was approved by voters in 2007. The bill (A-3897) would provide $120.12 million for local government open space acquisition and park development. This would include $750,000 for Fair Lawn open space acquisition, $741,500 for Edgewater Borough Veteran’s Field improvements and $1.25 million for Bergen County for open space acquisition. The measure passed the Assembly Appropriations Committee and now goes the Speaker, who decides if and when to post them for a vote.
