GIBLIN TRAVELS TO FT. SILL OKLAHOMA, VISITS WITH NJ NAT’L GUARD TROOPS BOUND FOR IRAQ
Assemblyman Meets With Members Of 150th Assault Helicopter Battalion During One-Day Trip
(TRENTON) – Assemblyman Thomas P. Giblin today traveled via military aircraft to Ft. Sill, Oklahoma as part of a state delegation to lend support and observe the validation ceremony of the 150th Assault Helicopter Battalion Unit of the New Jersey Army National Guard.
The ceremony marked completion of their required training for their wartime mission to Iraq.
“These brave soldiers represent the best of New Jersey,” said Giblin (D-Essex). “The battalion of 256 men and women represents each of our 21 counties. Many of these soldiers are on their second tour of duty – some on their third or fourth. These selfless New Jerseyans have put their lives on hold to protect ours. They are truly American heroes.”
Giblin noted that some of the soldiers serving with the 150th are from the 34th Legislative District and that he hopes to meet them while having lunch with the members of the unit. The Assemblyman also will be in attendance during the soldiers’ validation ceremony.
“It is an honor to shake hands with each and every soldier that I meet,” said Giblin. “I truly am in awe of their strength and discipline, especially those with families they must leave behind while they serve.”
Accompanying Giblin on the trip were Gov. Jon S. Corzine, New Jersey National Guard Adjutant General Glenn Reith, several Assembly colleagues, a group of Guardsmen employers and other military officials. Giblin is expected to return late this evening.
