So Much For Transparency Ms. Walsh
Middletown Democrats Use Bogus Ocean County-Based PAC To Wheel Bundled Middlesex County Vendor Contributions
(Middletown) – Middletown School Board Member Pat Walsh today was caught in a scheme to finance her campaign for Township Committee with wheeled funds bundled by a well-known Middlesex County engineering firm, CME Associates, through a bogus political action committee called “OC-PAC” formed in Ocean County earlier this year.
“Last year, Middletown passed one of the strongest pay-to-play ordinances in the State of New Jersey, Pat Walsh opposed this ordinance then and she’s trying to circumvent it now,” said Middletown Township Committee Candidate Tony Fiore. “Aside from receiving an excessive $7,200 contribution from former Corzine Goldman Sachs Partner Phil Murphy, this PAC contribution is the largest received by Pat Walsh’s campaign to date.”*
April 15, 2008 – “OC-PAC” registered to the Brick Township home address of the bookkeeper of an Ocean County funeral home. The alleged purpose of the PAC is to support “responsible government and environmental issues.”
June 16 & 24, 2008 – $8,500 contributed by CME President Dave Samuels of Sayreville, Middlesex County, and his employees as follows: D. Samuels - $2,500; G. Valesi - $1,500; J. Cornell - $1,500; D. Samuels - $1,500; and J. Stefani - $1,500. This total made up approximately 60% off all of the PAC’s contributions, with a few checks from other government vendors from outside of Monmouth County.
August 12, 2008 - $7,200 contributed to the Middletown Democrat Executive Committee from “OC-PAC.”
October 20, 2008 - $15,000 transferred from Middletown Democrat Executive Committee to Pat Walsh’s candidates committee.
“Unfortunately, this is just another example of Pat Walsh hiding contributions and gifts from Middletown’s taxpayers,” concluded Fiore.
*Mr. Murphy may only contribute up to $5,200 per election cycle to Pat Walsh’s joint candidate’s committee--$2,600 per candidate times two candidates. He contributed $7,200 during the primary election cycle.
