Assemblywoman Joan Quigley (D-Hudson) today reeased the following statement:
“The ongoing global economic crisis forced us to take a bare-bones approach to this year’s budget, but Democrats remain committed to protecting the key health programs working New Jersey families rely on.
“This comes on the heels of efforts by the previous administration in Washington to cut 10,000 New Jersey kids out of NJ FamilyCare. We fought against that, and now in partnership with our state’s Congressional delegation and President Obama, we are reinforcing our health care safety net.
“Hospitals will receive $950 million through combined state and federal funding. Medicaid will continue to help 840,000 low-income residents free of charge. NJ FamilyCare will serve more than 300,000 children and parents. About 170,000 senior citizens will receive prescription drug assistance. More than 30,000 mothers will receive prenatal care.
“These are among the key programs that make New Jersey a better place for all of us.
"Even in these grim economic times we are providing assistance and support to those who need it most. That’s a core New Jersey value, and one residents should feel confident will remain in the forefront.”
