(TRENTON) - Assemblywoman Nellie Pou (D-Passaic) today issued the following statement in response to Governor Jon Corzine's budget address:
"This year's budget is about continuing to do the right thing by making responsible financial choices to ensure we emerge from this economic crisis a stronger New Jersey tomorrow and down the road.
"The Governor has had to make tough decisions regarding the budget yet we will continue to provide the neediest and most vulnerable residents the help they need - including New Jersey children, disabled, seniors and working families."
"I fully support furthering our state's commitment to education; this budget includes $25 million for the expansion of the state's pre-K programs which will ensure New Jersey children have a better opportunity to excel in education.
"Also, this plan will protect the property tax rebates of many New Jerseyans on fixed incomes including senior and disabled homeowners.
"Together, we must continue to tighten our belts to position New Jersey to not just survive this economic storm but to prosper in the years to come."
