WATSON COLEMAN TO HOLD FIRST NORTH JERSEY 'SECOND CHANCE' HEARING

WATSON COLEMAN TO HOLD FIRST NORTH JERSEY 'SECOND CHANCE' HEARING THIS THURSDAY

(TRENTON) - Assembly Majority Leader Bonnie Watson Coleman on Thursday will host her first 'Second Chance' hearing in North Jersey to discuss ways to improve education and training to prevent individuals released from prison avoid returning to crime.

The hearing will be the third in a series of hearings the Majority Leader is holding across New Jersey.

The Second Chance Hearing will be held from 3 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 11 at Rutgers University Newark at the Paul Robeson Center at 350 Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd., Newark.

Watson Coleman said she expects the largest crowd to-date for any of the 'Second Chance' hearings.  Thursday's hearing will focus on education and training programs during incarceration and following an inmate's release.

The hearing has received an overwhelming response from community groups, religious leaders, advocates, law enforcement professionals and residents expected to attend.

"North Jersey is home to some of the state's leading voices on re-entry and inmate advocacy - the overwhelming response to Thursday's meeting underscores the significance of prisoner reentry in communities across the state," said Watson Coleman (D-Mercer).  "The hundreds of people anticipated to attend this meeting will help ensure the state's limited fiscal resources are put to best use on education and training to prevent taxpayer's from bearing the cost of repeat offenders."
