Elizabeth Lawyer, Community Leader Newest Assemblywoman
(TRENTON) –Assemblywoman Annette Quijano today became Union County’s newest voice of advocacy when she took the oath of office to become a member of the 213th New Jersey General Assembly representing the 20th Legislative District.
“I am honored to be the first woman and minority representing the 20th District’s many diverse, working families,” said Quijano (D-Union). “I look forward to providing a voice for those in need and joining Senator Lesniak and Assemblyman Cryan in continuing to fight for Union County’s communities today and in the future.”
Quijano joins state Senator Raymond Lesniak (D-Union) and Assemblyman Joseph Cryan (D-Union) as part of the District 20 all-Democratic team. The 20th Legislative District consists of the Union County municipalities of Elizabeth, Kenilworth, Roselle, and Union Township.
Assembly Speaker Joseph J. Roberts Jr. (D-Camden) said Quijano’s experience and leadership in the community will provide the region with a new voice for crafting public policy aimed at jobs, economic opportunities and services to benefit all people from across Union County.
“Annette Quijano possesses a unique blend of experience – from her legal expertise to her first-hand knowledge of local and state government – that will undoubtedly make her an important voice in the Assembly Democratic caucus,” said Roberts (D-Camden). “Her understanding of the challenges facing working families throughout North Jersey and Union County will prove invaluable to crafting policies that will benefit all of New Jersey.”
The Assemblywoman will serve on the Assembly Labor Committee and the Assembly Telecommunications and Utilities Committee for the 2008-09 legislative session.
Quijano is an attorney who most recently served as assistant counsel to three governors. She also has extensive experience in the corporate arena, government and as a private attorney.
She was previously involved with the Governor’s Working Group for Hispanic Affairs and the United Way Advisory Council of Union County, and remains active in Puerto Ricans in Management and Executive Roles. She’s also served as a New Jersey Redistricting Commissioner.
Quijano also previously worked as a manager for Prudential Healthcare/Aetna U.S. Healthcare and as chief of staff to Senator Raymond Lesniak
