GORDON-WEINBERG ENCAP REFORM LEGISLATION SIGNED INTO LAW

TRENTON – A bill sponsored by Senators Bob Gordon and Loretta Weinberg to require private entities under public contract to comply with stricter financing and transparency standards in an effort to avoid scandals like the EnCap debacle in the Meadowlands was signed into law yesterday by Governor Corzine.

“Public-private partnerships are important to create needed economic growth in New Jersey, but the people of our State deserve some guarantee for their investment,” said Senator Gordon, D-Bergen. “In the case of EnCap, hundreds of millions of dollars were funneled to an unqualified developer for one of the largest redevelopment projects ever undertaken in New Jersey. If private developers were required to invest more private capital and submit audited financial statements or risk losing public financing, the EnCap debacle might never have happened.”

(TRENTON) - Today, Republican gubernatorial candidate Chris Christie is welcoming former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney to New Jersey, openly embracing a right-wing conservative who opposes stem cell research, vowed to veto an expansion of children’s health care, and called for the removal of health care coverage mandates in Massachusetts.

 “With their access to the GOP money machine, we knew going in to the election our opponents would win the dollar race. But our priority is to win the real race, the one to represent the people, all the people, of the 9th District,” Visotcky and Rue said.

CUNNINGHAM TO ENCOURAGE JERSEY CITY STUDENTS TO STAY IN SCHOOL

JERSEY CITY – As part of the 11th annual National Legislators Go Back to School program, State Senator Sandra Bolden Cunningham will launch a speaking tour next week of four schools in Jersey City in order to encourage students there to stay in school and work hard to achieve their maximum academic potential.

NEW BRUNSWICK – On Wednesday, October 14th, Senator Barbara Buono (D-Middlesex) will host a Nonprofit Roundtable Discussion with leaders from New Jersey’s non-profit organizations to identify ways to work with the State to help increase efficiency and maintain their vital services during the economic recession.

“New Jersey’s nonprofit organizations have been particularly hard hit by the recession,” said Senator Buono. “While they are facing the same declining revenue streams that face the rest of our State, they are also experiencing a dramatic increase in demand for their services.”

TRENTON – Senator Shirley K. Turner, D-Mercer, issued the following statement today on the announcement of an agreement between Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey and Capital Health Systems over reimbursement rates for medical services:

“I am obviously pleased Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield and Capital Health Systems have been able to work through their differences and reach an agreement that will allow Horizon subscribers to continue using the Helene Fuld and Mercer campuses of Capital Health as in-network providers.
