GREENSTEIN & DeANGELO DISCUSS NEW HOSPITAL'S USE OF 'GREEN DESIGN'

Site of New Hospital Adhering to LEED Standards for Sustainability in Construction, Design

(PLAINSBORO) - Assembly members Linda R. Greenstein and Wayne P. DeAngelo (both D-Mercer/Middlesex) today issued a multimedia package highlighting their tour of a hospital construction site utilizing the latest in "green design" standards.

The pair toured the construction site of the new University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro, which is being built according to the U.S. Green Building Council guidelines for the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standard.  LEED standards emphasize long-term sustainability and minimal environmental impact.  The hospital site employs nearly 500 construction workers and will create hundreds of new green jobs when it opens in 2011.

GUSCIORA PRAISES PROGRESS OF NEW JERSEY OFF-SHORE WIND FARM

(TRENTON) - Assemblyman Reed Gusciora (D-Princeton), the Assembly Commerce and Economic Development Committee chairman, issued the following statement on the release of leases for three off-shore wind projects:

CHIVUKULA & BEGLEY JR. DECLARE 'GREEN JOBS' AS PATHWAY TO RECOVERY

(SOMERSET) - Assemblyman Upendra J. Chivukula joined actor and activist Ed Begley Jr. on Sunday to declare "green jobs" as a key path toward economic recovery.

Chivukula (D-Somerset), the Assembly Telecommunications and Utilities chairman, introduced Begley at the PSE&G GreenFest in Somerset.

LAMPITT/CHIVUKULA/WAGNER/VAINIERI HUTTLE/POU/GREENSTEIN BILL TO PERMIT WIND AND SOLAR FACILITIES IN INDUSTRIAL ZONE ADVANCES

(TRENTON) - Legislation sponsored by Assembly members Pamela R. Lampitt, Upendra Chivukula, Connie Wagner, Valerie Vainieri Huttle, Nellie Pou and Linda R. Greenstein to permit wind and solar facilities in industrial zones was approved by the Senate.

The bill passed the Assembly 60-15 in October, and an amended version was approved 36-3 by the Senate on Monday. It now returns to the Assembly for final legislative approval.

ASSEMBLY DEMOCRATIC COMMENTARY ON MEASURE PROMOTING NJ-BASED 'GREEN' MANUFACTURING

(TRENTON) - Assembly members Pamela R. Lampitt, Wayne P. DeAngelo, Gary S. Schaer and Jack Conners today issued a multimedia package on legislation, released from the Assembly State Government Committee, that would promote home-grown, in-state solar and wind energy manufacturing.

The bill (A-3616), sponsored by Lampitt (D-Camden) and DeAngelo (D-Mercer), would grant a preference to New Jersey businesses that produce alternative energy hardware when awarding state contracts involving solar and wind energy projects, further supporting New Jersey "green" businesses and jobs.  The measure also would support projects that aim to use a majority of parts manufactured or produced in the state in the assembly of a final project.

Bill Designed to Promote Clean, Energy; Is Among Many Pushed by Assembly to Promote Alternative Energy

(TRENTON) - Legislation sponsored by Assemblywoman Pamela R. Lampitt and Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo to promote New Jersey's solar and wind energy businesses was released today by an Assembly committee.

The bill (A-3616) would grant a preference to New Jersey businesses in the awarding of state contracts for solar panels, wind turbines and other solar and wind energy devices further supporting "green" businesses and jobs in the state.

It also would support projects that aim to use a majority of parts manufactured or produced in the state for the assembly of a final product.

OLIVER, LAMPITT, DeANGELO ON ENACTMENT OF BILL ENHANCING ENERGY SAVINGS IMPROVEMENTS

(TRENTON) - Assembly members Sheila Y. Oliver, Pamela R. Lampitt and Wayne P. DeAngelo today issued a multimedia package on the enactment of legislation they sponsored to authorize state, county and municipal governments and school boards to more easily implement energy savings improvement programs.

The new law allows governments to enter into long-term lease-purchase agreements with energy companies, providing public buildings the benefits of energy saving technologies - which include new, efficient HVAC systems, improved insulation and efficient lighting - without the upfront spending normally required.

The sponsors contend the measure (A-1185) will create new jobs and could act as a catalyst to promote and sustain environmentally friendly - or "green-collar" - jobs.

ROBERTS CONVENES ROUNDTABLE TO DEVISE PLAN TO SPUR NJ ECONOMY THROUGH ALTERNATIVE ENERGY

(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Joseph J. Roberts, Jr. today convened a roundtable of business leaders, state officials, environmentalists and legislators who will spend several weeks devising plans to make New Jersey a leader in alternative energy production.

Roberts (D-Camden) said the group hopes to develop a plan by year’s end to create jobs and spur economic growth in the state by investing in alternative energy.
