In Bergen, Dem freeholders outraise Republicans 3-1

In Bergen County, the two Democratic freeholders up for reelection have out-raised their Republican challengers by about three-to-one.

Incumbents Julie O’Brien and Vernon Walton have raised $136,692 in their joint campaign account and finished up just short of $6,000 in the red (they donated much of the campaign account’s money to the Bergen County Democratic Organization, which has not yet filed).
In their separate campaign accounts, Republicans John Driscoll and Rob Hermansen have raised a combined $47,187 and have a little under $4,000 on hand.

A more accurate picture of the campaign finance’s will emerge when the county’s two political parties filed their reports with the Election Law Enforcement Commission on October 15.

WATER, WATER EVERYWHERE. CAN’T AFFORD A DROP TO DRINK.

Hermansen’s Successful Efforts to Raise Water Rates by 62% Leaves Mahwah’s Residents All Wet

HACKENSACK – Republican candidate Robert Hermansen is in hot water once again over his record of drastic increases in the taxes and fees assessed upon the working families of Mahwah. An irate Hermansen recently tried to blame the 22% tax increase Mahwah residents saw during a 3 year period on a non-existent connection between municipal and county tax rates. The increase, which took place between 2007 and 2009 while he served as a councilman, occurred in spite of the fact that county tax rates remained stable.
