You're welcome, Paul

The Inside Edge is always happy to help our good friend Paul Mulshine, which is why there were no complaints when his February 5 column on the idea that Mitt Romney’s campaign can run their own delegate slate in June and effectively bypass the winner-take-all system appeared to mirror a similar column on this site six days earlier.  After all, Mulshine is a better writer, and he did use the s-word.

But one word of caution to the man who sits on the right side of the Star-Ledger:  be careful when you let C. Richard “Dick” Kamin, a man of limited intellectual capacity and even less influence, spin you on a story – especially one the ex-Motor Vehicles Director read on PolitickerNJ.com.

The buried story and the hidden energy tax

Residential and commercial electric customers join forces to pull the plug on a billion buck boondoggle by NJ's largest utility company. And why isn't this front page news?

That’s the real point of Wednesday’s Star Ledger story about a Public Advocate-led ratepayer complaint against PSE&G for surcharges on electric customers to pay - again - for the utility giant's decades old power plants. Who do you call when there’s a leak?

If the leak’s under the sink, it’s a pretty easy call. When it’s in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Jersey, it’s another matter.

This week’s coverage of the ongoing federal probe of US Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) underscores the point.

“According to sources with knowledge of the meeting,” Menendez’s attorneys met with prosecutors in June to request a letter exonerating the Senator as first reported in the Star Ledger. Now it’s very possible – even highly likely -- that the Menendez camp was the anonymous source.

'Tis the Season to Poll

It’s a bit of a stretch for the Star Ledger to portray Sen. Hillary Clinton's (D-NY) as having "surprisingly weak support from women" based on the new Rutgers-Eagleton Poll.

The poll actually shows

Clinton leading by a 9 percent margin among women in a head-to-head horse race against former NY Mayor Rudy Giuliani. Not bad 15 months before the general election..."a lifetime in politics."
