Lisa P. Jackson today addressed over 100 women as the keynote speaker at a luncheon hosted by Senator M. Teresa Ruiz (D-Newark), Assemblywoman L. Grace Spencer (D-Newark) and the Democratic State Committee’s “Yes We Can 2.0” (YWC 2.0) to show support for the re-election of Governor Jon S. Corzine, the election of the State’s first Lieutenant Governor Loretta Weinberg and Democrats across New Jersey.
Over 100 women from across the State attended the luncheon held at Opcao Café in the city of Newark to welcome Lisa Jackson back to the State of New Jersey. Jackson previously served as Governor Corzine’s chief of staff as well as commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

TRENTON – A bill aimed at stemming gun violence in New Jersey by limiting buyers to one handgun purchase per month fell short of passage in the state Senate today when Republicans failed to offer a single vote in support.
Sponsored by Senator Sandra Bolden Cunningham (D-Hudson) and Senator Teresa Ruiz (D-Essex) the bill (A-339/S-1774) fell just one vote short of passage. Senator Cunningham asked that the bill be held over with the vote total standing at 20-18, with two not voting. A bill requires 21 votes for passage in the Senate.
