(TRENTON) -Assemblyman Reed Gusciora (D-Princeton) is voicing his unease to the current budget proposal eliminating the Department of Agriculture and closing state parks and is seeking the assistance of the Assembly Budget Committee in finding other reductions.

"While I completely support Governor Corzine's efforts to reduce state spending," Gusciora said in a letter to Assembly Budget Chairman Louis Greenwald, "these two cuts in particular will be penny wise but pound foolish."

TRENTON -- Burnishing his blue collar roots and seniority in Washington, U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg today launched his re-election bid at the Trenton Marriott, promising to lead the fight for New Jersey's working families.

"I will build on my work of the last few years, to stand strong against those who attack our values that short change our state and to deliver the results that improve people's lives," said Lautenberg, who was first elected to the Senate in 1982.

(TRENTON) - Legislation Assembly members John McKeon, Reed Gusciora, Douglas H. Fisher, Neil Cohen and Linda Stender sponsored to ban the harvest of horseshoe crabs and their eggs was signed into law today by Governor Jon S. Corzine.

College history professor/author Josh Zeitz has officially joined the race for Congress in the fourth district, and the 33-year-old Democrat is telling party leaders that he’ll raise $200,000 for his race against entrenched GOP Congressman Christopher Smith by June.  Zeitz has a huge network of donors from his work as a political staffer, and his father, Carl Zeitz, is a well-liked former newspaper reporter, casino regulatory, and lobbyist.

United States Rep. Chris Smith has been beating Democrats in the Fourth Congressional District for 27 years, but the assembled supporters had high hopes for Zeitz.

U.S. Rep. Rush Holt (D-12) introduced the latest Democratic challenger as a “very accomplished scholar and really exciting candidate.”

Mercer County Executive Brian Hughes, Washington Township Municipal Chairman Larry Schneider and Assemblyman Reed Gusciora (D-Mercer) lost to Smith in 1992, 1998 and 2000 respectively.

“I’m celebrating my tenth anniversary this year,” Schneider dead-panned.
